Mariner Memo

This Week at Marine City Middle School...
I hope that everyone had a restful wellness weekend for the mid-winter break. This week we welcomed our students back from that weekend with a fun four-day week. The week was highlighted by Thursday's informational meeting for Mariner Drama and Friday's after-school MCMAN event. Both of these events had the students buzzing and it was fantastic to see their excitement for our activities. Make sure you check out the rest of the newsletter to get your fill of these events and our other student recognition from this week.
Next week the after school helproom is back in action on Tuesday and Thursday after school from 2:30-3:30. This is a great, free resource that our students can use to get their questions answered, meet with group mates to get projects completed, and to get caught up on missing work. It is even a great habit builder that can be used to complete work while still at school!
- TUESDAY, Feb. 25th: Mrs. McLeod (Math) and Mrs. Frederick (Social Studies)

This Week in the Positivity Project...
Next week our focus will shift to a new character strength, ENTHUSIASM, which is the ability to bring excitement to different situations. In P2 parlance, this character strength is also referred to as ZEST which aptly defines the feeling for life that people strong in this characteristic share with the world.
1-page overview for ENTHUSIASM
This week’s example is Jess Mendoza. Mendoza was a 4-time First Team All-American while playing college softball at Stanford. She then became a member of the U.S. women’s national softball team, earning a gold medal in Athens in 2004 and a silver medal in Beijing in 2008. Throughout her playing career, she brought her enthusiasm and spirit to her teammates. And, she’s continued to bring that positive energy and enthusiasm to the broadcast booth as a color analyst on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. As you’ll see in her interview of the New York Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes, she’s excited to jump in and engage with the players to learn why they do what they do.
