READING CHALLENGE
We will be focusing on nonfiction texts, books that tell us true facts. This is a great opportunity to walk through these books and look at the headings, photographs, captions, and maps to discuss how these parts of a nonfiction book really give us a better understanding of what the author is teaching us. They should never be overlooked!
Below is the link to EPIC, (see directions below how to long in). Have your child pick ONE ocean animal they want to learn the most about! Search your animal and read or listen to as many books as you want.
As you read, take notes! Create a chart that includes these titles: _____________ have, _________ can, and ____________ are.
Fill in as you read. See below for an example.
Enter class code mkj6145
Scroll all the way to the BOTTOM and click Create Profile.
Add your child's name and get to reading!
SEA CREATURE ART
Below are instructions to make salt dough animals (although they can create it using whatever they want to use). I can't wait to see their animal creations!
SALT DOUGH DIRECTIONS
YOU WILL NEED:
2 cups flour
1 cup of salt
1 cup of water
Baking pan
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, water and salt and mix well using a mixer.
3. Create your animal using your dough.
4. Bake for 2 hours and then let cool or leave out to air dry.
5. Paint your animal after it is dry if you would like to!
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
-Create a habitat for your animal using a shoe box or a piece of paper for the background.
-Create more animals and create a giant ocean scene.
-Put a hole in the top and when dry, put a string inside to hang up.
-Use the left over salt dough to create an ocean background.
-Be creative and have fun!
MATH CHALLENGE
It's SUMMER time! Which means that it is probably HOT! You will be recording the TEMPERATURE and the WEATHER this week! Everyday (Monday-Friday) you will write down what the temperature is in Fahrenheit and what the weather is like. I have a example of a graph below to show you how to do it! You may print this one out or make your own!
