Principal's Corner
Hello Ramsey Families!
We are settling into routines and students are mastering lockers and locks while working to remember where their classes are on A & B days! There is such a positive energy with students in the building!
Our building enrollment is right at projection, but is requiring some balancing as we have a larger than expected sixth grade group! We have been working on schedule changes, adding additional sixth grade classes which impacts a lot of students with schedule changes. Please know we are working to adjust with the least amount of disruption to student schedules.
Changing schedules will take a week to finalize, we hope to have new schedules in place to start Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.
Again, please feel free to reach out to me with questions and concerns via email teresa.vibar@spps.org.

Health & Wellness
Hydration Is Healthy, Bring A Water Bottle~
Hydration is healthy- and water bottles help reduce waste. At Ramsey we want to continue to promote healthy habits in our shared space. For both health and environmental reasons we are encouraging students to bring a LABELED water bottle from home to fill and refill at our hygienic touch less/hands-free filtered water stations.
“Research indicates that students remember more and stay focused longer when they are hydrated. In fact, studies have found that drinking water can improve brain function by 15 percent. Because the brain has no way to store water, it is important to continually drink water throughout the day.”

Now that the new iPads have been handed out, the iPad Support Form has also been turned back on. Students who need help with their iPads can complete the form to notify Mrs. Hagen, iPad Teacher, and Mr. Sheridan, Librarian, of any issues they're experiencing with their iPads. Parents and guardians can also complete the form for students when they are unable. Use the link or QR code for iPad help https://bit.ly/RMSipadhelp.

Athletics
Dear Ramsey Middle School Families,
We are excited to be able to offer middle school athletics this fall. As is the case with other school activities, there will be some changes that will allow students to participate in a modified athletics season.
Due to the nationwide shortage of school bus drivers, we are only able to provide after-school transportation for high school students at this time. This means that all SPPS middle school athletics will have a modified intramural season this fall. We wish we could compete against other schools, but we cannot do so without offering transportation. We also cannot ask parents to drive, as it would not be equitable for students who do not have this option.
In light of this change, the fall activity fee is being reduced from $30 to $5. Students will still need a current sports physical to participate in the fall season; please make an appointment with your physician or visit one of our SPPS Health Start Clinics.
The season will begin on Monday, September 27. The following fall sports will be offered at our school:
Volleyball
Flag Football
Soccer
Sign-ups will be provided for students during lunches or in the main office on Monday, September 20th.
All activities will follow the COVID-19 recommendations from the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The recommendations include vaccination for anyone age 12 or older, frequent COVID-19 testing, wearing masks when not actively participating, keeping physical distance when possible, and practicing in small groups.
We hope to be able to offer a full season with regular competitions starting this winter. More information will be available later this year.
Thank you for your understanding. We are looking forward to a different, but fun, season.
