News for our Families for the Week of November 7-11, 2022
**ATTENTION**TRAFFIC SAFETY!** Atención!! Seguridad de Trafico!!
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP AND ATTENTION REGARDING TRAFFIC. WE HAVE HAD AT LEAST THREE INCIDENTS IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS WITH FAMILIES SPEEDING, CUTTING OFF OTHER DRIVERS, AND GETTING INTO ARGUMENTS IN OUR DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP LANES.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE SIGNS AND BE PATIENT AND SAFE. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT OR TO GET HURT, ESPECIALLY OUR STUDENTS. WE DO HAVE CAMERAS TO RECORD SUCH INCIDENTS BOTH AT THE FRONT AND BACK TRAFFIC LOOPS.
If you would like to volunteer to be a part of our Libby Safety Patrol, please contact Mrs. Campisi at kristina.campisi@oside.us
Principal's Message/Mensaje de la Directora
Kindness is the Answer!
Our students have been at school for almost three full months. Days go by very quickly and about now we see our students becoming comfortable with their teachers, their classmates, and the school routine. They have grown so much!
Your child is also being comfortable expressing themselves to others. Often the students use kind words, and play fairly. Other times, we see our students being unkind and showing frustration. Every day we help our students understand rules and how to solve problems, and make good choices.
At home, your children look to you for guidance. Again, you are your child's first teacher. When we model patience, kindness, acceptance, and understanding, our children will reflect what they see and hear. It starts at home and it carries to us at school. Discuss what good citizenship means, looks like, sounds like, and how it has a great impact on everything we do.
Have a safe weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hilary Cuevas
Principal
Family Homework
Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler
Spend 10 minutes with your child(ren) this weekend and watch this engaging read-aloud video. Mrs. Ruler helps her students understand that acts of kindness practiced at home, help with spreading kindness at school. See if your student can collect 100 acts of kindness at home and a school! What a great way to practice citizenship and positive behavior. A Slice of Nice, Makes Miles of Smiles! Enjoy!

Please Be On Time for Drop-Off and Pick-up
Our school day starts at 8:15am every day. We close our gates at 8:15am and students go to the office and are marked tardy. Our teachers work hard to begin their teaching when students come in to class. When your child is late, they miss out on community building and keeping routines. Also, when children are picked up late they sometimes worry and often become anxious when they have to wait in the office. Please do your best to be on time. Call our office at 760-901-7000. We may need to meet with you if the problem is reoccurring.

Cold and Flu Season is Here!
Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.Get vaccinated every year, Avoid close contact with sick people, Frequently wash hands with soap, Stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional. See more prevention tips from the CDC.
Safety First!!!
Parent Volunteer Safety Patrol Needed
Libby Elementary always has a focus on safety! It is one of the most important concerns. We would like to start a Volunteer Safety Patrol to help us direct traffic, assist in helping children exit and enter their cars, and keeping our students safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If you have a focus on safety and have time during the morning, 7:45-8:15am and/or 2:10pm-3:15pm, we would appreciate your help. We can create a schedule and with enough volunteers, it would be just 30 minutes of your time once or twice a week. Please contact Mrs. Campisi at kristina.campisi@oside.us for more information. Thank you!
Keep CLEAR!
New Signs! Drop Off/Pick Up Zone
Please follow our new signs and do not drop off/pick up students until you move all the way down the curb. DO NOT PARK ON THE CURB! When you drop off/pick up before the drop-off/pick up zone, cars back up on to W. Redondo Dr and that is very DANGEROUS! Please be safe and courteous for all families and their students.

Independent Study Contracts
If your child will be away from school longer than 5 days, please let us know ahead of time (at least a week prior) so that we can prepare an Independent Study Contract. The contract will first need to be approved by the principal and will include school work for your child to complete so that the missing days from school will not be considered "unexcused". Please call our office at 760-901-7000 or stop by to speak with an office staff member. Without approval or without prior notice to set up the contract, the days missed will be marked "unexcused". Thank you for your cooperation!
Weekly Envelope!
Every week your child takes home a weekly information envelope. Inside are important flyers, letters, and items that need your attention. Please remove the items and return the signed envelope back to school with your child. Thank you!
