D.W. Daniel Foundation Update
The holiday season and the spirit of giving are upon us!
As we get close to wrapping up this calendar year, the D.W. Daniel Foundation would like to thank everyone for their generosity so far! We have been able to fund many school activities and positively impact the lives of our students!
This fall, we began two recognition campaigns on our social media accounts:
The first is “Teacher Testimony Tuesdays,” where we post videos (filmed and edited by our own DWD Broadcasting Class and Mrs. Howard) and statements from our teachers explaining how they have been helped in the classroom by Foundation grants. We are thrilled to announce that the SDPC loved this idea so much that they are also going to produce Teacher Testimony Tuesdays, highlighting classrooms around the district! This is just another way Daniel High School and the Daniel Foundation are leading the way to ensure all students receive the best education!
Our second social media recognition is “Thank you Thursdays,” where we highlight our corporate sponsors for their immense generosity! We feature a new business every two weeks. These corporate memberships have also helped us fund many needed projects and we are honored to work with them to make sure every student benefits!
Our first semester corporate sponsors are:
TigerTown Graphics
Trehel Corporation
First Citizens Bank
MetroCon
4 Paws American Pub
Calhoun Clemson Dental Associates, LLC
Town of Six Mile, SC
Please check out both campaigns on our Facebook page @DWDanielFoundation, and Instagram page @dwdanielfoundation. Be sure to follow us for more in the future!
We want to take a moment to again offer special thanks to everyone who organized and attended this year’s D. W. Daniel Alumni Legacy Event on Black Friday! All this money will go directly to help the students and staff of Daniel High School and we could not be more grateful for our alumni’s generosity! This annual event is a fantastic way for Daniel alums to come together and give back to the school they love, while reconnecting with old friends.
And since the needs never end, our efforts never stop! For anyone who still wants to help (and we always need help!), there are a few areas where you can make a difference. Remember 100% of our funding goes directly to the needs of Daniel High School, and all monetary donations are tax-deductible!
1) Fund faculty requests– The Foundation received over $7000 in funding requests from our faculty just this school year. Please consider making a donation earmarked for faculty requests! Every little bit helps!
2) Shop via smile.amazon.com- This is perhaps the easiest way to support the D. W. Daniel High School Foundation! Just go to smile.amazon.com and choose us as your charity. For every qualifying purchase, we receive 0.01% from Amazon at no additional cost to you! Every little bit makes a difference!
3) Join the Foundation- It’s not too late to join for this school year! Choose a One Daniel membership that helps support both the Foundation and Athletic Booster Club, and/or your business can become a Corporate member with all the perks that go with it! For more info, feel free to contact us.
4) Easy donating options- For your convenience, we offer PayPal (use email danielhighfoundation@gmail.com). This is a great option to those wanting to make an immediate donation or for friends and family who want to support the school from afar. You can also use the membership and donation forms found on our webpage and social media. Just make out your check to the “D.W. Daniel Foundation,” indicate the area you wish to fund on the memo line, and either drop it off in an envelope labeled “D.W. Daniel Foundation” to the DHS front office, or mail it to us at 140 Blue and Gold Blvd, Central, SC 29630.
Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful holiday season!
Science National Honor Society
Science National Honor Society
By Annie Buck, Senior SNHS Officer
This month, the Science National Honor Society was excited to host Mr. Paul Kearns, the Sustainable Development Manager for the Milliken Chemical Department. Mr. Kearns discussed the science behind plastics and the global waste problem they present. Mr. Kearns talked about how his work at Milliken is contributing to new designs for plastic materials to promote sustainability, such as the creation of biodegradable materials. Mr. Kearns pointed out how plastics are actually very beneficial to our consumer society, even though they often receive negative media attention, and our next steps should include making plastic usage more sustainable, not cutting it out of society. We would like to thank Mr. Kearns once again for his thoughtful and engaging presentation and for taking the time to speak to our group.
The next SNHS meeting will be on Wednesday December 4th at 5:30pm in Room 339. See Ms. Tidwell for more information.
AP Environmental Science
The Greenwood Genetics Center led a DNA gel electrophoresis lab for AP Environmental Science students on November 15. Students learned how to identify GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) in food by comparing genes of wild and artificial species of plants.

The Interact Club has been busy serving our campus and community. So far, DWD students have served at Clemson’s Child Development Center, packaged food at Clemson Community Care, and cleaned up Daniel’s Memorial Garden behind the school. The rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and Interact students live out this motto each year.
Trivia Night
Daniel Faculty and friends competed in the TD’s Trivia Championship. Only past champions were invited, and the DWD team placed second! Faculty trivia starts back monthly in January. Come out and enjoy fellowship with your faculty peers.
Chorus
Christmas Concert:
Our Daniel High Concert Choir Christmas Concert will be held on December 17 at 6:30 in the auditorium. This concert will feature our very talented chorus, as well as the Glee Club and the Edwards Middle School Chorus Club.
SC All-State Chorus:
Congratulations to Chloe Crownover for being selected for the SC High School All-State Chorus! The All-State Chorus program was organized to provide an opportunity for superior choral students in South Carolina to sing together and to represent the state in statewide events. Students who participate in All-State have an opportunity to further utilize the skills obtained and developed in their local school programs. The South Carolina All-State Chorus program provides an intensive and demanding vocal experience that fosters self-discipline and personal growth as well as musicianship. This year, more than 1500 high school students from South Carolina traveled to Cayce, SC to audition for the All-State Chorus. Of the two Daniel High students who auditioned, Chloe Crownover was accepted into the program as a second soprano. Chloe will travel to Winthrop University for a weekend of rehearsal from March 5th to March 7th, with a final concert on the 7th at 3:00 p.m.
Beta Club Induction
The Beta Club induction was held on November 14, 2019. Students must have above a 3.500 unweighted GPA to join the Beta Club. Use the link below to view the list of inductees.
Veterans Day Ceremony
SC-941 and D. W. Daniel High School honored men and women from all branches of the military who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces on Veterans Day. Originally called Armistice Day, November 11th marks the end of World War 1, which occurred on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. In 1954, the holiday was renamed to Veterans Day to pay tribute to the veterans of all wars. Lieutenant Colonel Keith Rockow was the guest speaker for our ceremony. Lt Col. Rockow completed twenty years in the United States Air Force. We thank him for his service and for speaking to us on this special day to commemorate and honor those brave men and women who have served.
Veterans Day Parade
Sunday, November 10th was a very special day for SC-941 and the local community. D. W. Daniel AFJROTC showed up in force to march in the Pickens County Veterans Day Parade. There were a lot of smiles, cheers, and tears as the cadets proudly showed support for the many military veterans. The weather was perfect for a Fall day with the sun shining down on these heroes!
