DRESS CODE REMINDERS
At PELC, we believe that a student's attire should not impact his or her safety, health, or ability to learn. We place the primary decision of a student's dress in the hands of the parent or guardian responsible for the student. However, we will also enforce the following rules at PELC:
· Students are expected to wear long pants, footwear that covers all parts of the foot, and jackets or coats until the outside temperature is 60 degrees or higher with the wind chill. Children in grades 4k-3 are encouraged to continuing wearing hats and mittens until this temperature is reached as well.
· Students CANNOT wear flip flops or sandals on the wood chips due to the risk of injury.
· All other dress codes apply. Please see the Family Handbook, available here:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rDj90_LRvl0-WJHz6F02F1kBxaqX7x1v/view, for any additional concerns.

Thank you to all the students and families who participated in the Spring Fundraiser! Your efforts support many initiatives for students!
Interested in learning more about PTSO? Want to become more involved but not sure how to go about it? PTSO will be hosting a Q&A on Tuesday April 30 at 5:30pm at Luigi’s Pizza (880 Frontage Road in Peshtigo).
PTSO president and treasurer positions will be vacant starting the 2019-2020 school year. If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact PTSO at PTSO@peshtigo.k12.wi.us. A big thank you Tricia K. and Maureen P. for their service.
PTSO is sponsoring 2 free little libraries in town; one by school and another by the baseball fields. In order to make this possible we are looking for gently used books for school aged children. Donations can be dropped off at PELC.
Teacher appreciation week begins on May 6th. PTSO will be looking for your help to provide the teachers with some good food and treats. Watch for information to come home in your child(ren) folders.

FROM YOUR SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Making Good Character a Family Goal
Dear Parents,
We are nearly at the end of the school year. This year we’ve focused on helping students build character, focusing on a different character trait each month. In May we are taking time to review these character traits, and more generally, why character is so important.
So why is good character important? Having good character is necessary for a person’s overall success in life. If children are being taught how to read and write and do math, how much will they learn if they haven’t grown in their responsibility, self-control, and perseverance? How will children develop good relationships if they haven’t grown in their kindness, respect, and honesty? How will children grow up to be good employees and neighbors if they haven’t grown in their citizenship and tolerance? Children need to build good character in order to grow into happy, healthy, successful adults.
As the school year wraps up, I encourage you to find ways to help your child continue in their character development. Here are some suggestions:
Play board games or sports as a family. Playing games is a wonderful setting for teaching children patience, self-control, honesty, tolerance, emotional regulation, and so many other character traits. Make games about having fun—not winning or losing—and have natural consequences for poor choices like cheating (stop playing and say that you play games with children who play fair and follow the rules).
Spend time as a family serving your community.
Give your child daily family contributions (aka chores) to complete.
Participate in family activities that may be challenging, such as building a tree house or creating a garden.
Spend the day baking items to give to neighbors, and consider rewarding your child for their kindness and self-control (not eating the sweet treats) with a special treat after the items have been delivered.
Sincerely,
Katie Seidler, School Counselor

LIBRARY NEWS
BOOK FINES
Are you aware that your child may have a library fine still lingering from previous years? Any book or library item checked out to the student that is not returned to the library at the end of each school year is then charged to the student’s library account. Any book that is returned damaged to the library that is beyond repair, a charge is added to the student’s library account. As your 6th grader begins the process of transferring over to the Middle school, it is essential that these fines are paid in full BEFORE 6th grade graduation. Exact cash or checks can be used as payment and can be brought to the PELC Library. Payment is preferred over a replacement book because the books ordered come in a specific library school format, as opposed to just paperback or hardcover. If you would like to speak to me about the Library fine your 6th grader has, please call or email me to set up an appointment.BOOK RETURNS
Our last week to check out books will be May 13-17. Which means:
All library materials are due May 20-24.
Please send ALL library materials back during this week.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
Thanks everyone!
