What is Liver Failure?

Liver failure is when your liver begins to deteriorate at a rate where it cannot regenerate it self making it unable to filter out toxins and store glucose.

Systems Affected

Your blood would be affected because of the toxins and the lack of sugar in the body.

How the Liver Normally Works

Your liver normally stores sugars (glucose) for later when your blood sugar gets low. It also removes toxins from your body.

Target Population

It is more common in alcoholics to have Liver Failure though genetics can cause liver failure.


People who drink to often or took an overdose of a drug like Tylenol have a higher chance of having Liver Failure. Liver Failure also can occur if you have cancer.

If you think you are sick or something is wrong go to your doctor. If they believe that you have problems with your liver they will take a sample of the liver tissue. They will also perform blood tests and maybe an ultra sound.

Signs and Symptoms

If any of these things happens to you please go to you doctor if you see any of these thing happening to you or a friend/family member or yourself.

  • Yellowing of skin and eyes
  • vomiting
  • hallucinations
  • Nausea
  • Have a general sense of being unwell
  • Pain in upper right abdomen
  • Sleepiness
  • Confusion

Sometimes Liver Failure can be fixed with medication but in extreme cases people have needed a liver transplant.


Liver Failure can and is fatal and can kill in a couple days. Make sure to get to the hospital if you suspect a friend family member or yourself has Liver Failure. If you need a liver transplant, there is a 72% or 78% chance to survive from the transplant.


I chose to do Liver Failure because my brother died a couple months before I was born from Liver Failure.
