MWISD Tuesday Tech Tip for Teachers
#3 - March 21, 2017
I hope that everyone had a great Spring Break. I know some of you traveled and saw some of the world. Technology has made the world a much smaller place, so this week we are going to share some web sites to help bring the world into your classroom.
The newsletters are archived on the web site linked at the bottom of the page for easy reference (a link to it is also on the main Technology Dept. web site).

Web sites to bring the world into your classroom
- Google Arts and Culture - Google has partnered with more than 50 natural history and art museums across the world to create a catalog of hundreds of interactive stories, photos, videos, and virtual tours. Virtual tours allow students to explore a museum with the ability to zoom in and see every detail of a work of art.
- Google Maps to create virtual field trips - In Google Maps, go to Menu, Your Places, Maps. You can create custom maps with map pins, add your own pictures, add text with information or questions to be answered or links that show when a student clicks on a map pin,and more. Useful for you to create or to have students create a virtual field trip or map with information as an assignment. You can zoom into the street view to see what different locations actually look like.

- Google Streetview gallery - Lists of many visually appealing street views to give you a 360 degree view of sites such as volcanoes, historical buildings, Antarctica, and natural wonders.
- Virtual tours or virtual field trips - Besides the Google Arts and Culture site that has many virtual tours on it, there are lots of other virtual tours or virtual field trips available online. Some places even offer live virtual tours you can register for. Many museums and other sites have virtual tours. Here are a few examples:
* The Louve Museum in Paris virtual tour
* The Sistine Chapel - Mystery Skype - In a few months we will be rolling out Office 365 and one of the components is Skype for Business. The Mystery Skype web site allows you to find other classrooms around the world that your class can connect with. This is a great way to explore cultures, practice languages, communicate, and more. There are also some institutions or subject experts on the list.
