Junior High Choir Auditions

Deborah Stein and Jesse Callahan, choir directors at the junior high, will be at the Greene School on Monday February 6th and Tuesday, February 7th

to listen to any student in 6th grade who is interested in being in choir at the junior high. Make-ups will take place on Wednesday the 8th. The junior high currently has close to 400 students in choir and is excited to meet and welcome incoming 7th graders to the program next year. Last year, close to 250 6th graders auditioned for JH choir. Awesome! After auditions, the teachers will notify the students of which choir they should sign up for. Sycamore Junior High has 5 choirs that meet during the school day. They are all award winning ensembles and participate at all concerts! If you have a student who is a hard-worker, has a desire to try something new/meet new people, has a love of singing or wants to be part of a winning team, Sycamore Junior High choir might be for them! Please contact Deborah Stein ( or Jesse Callahan ( if you have any additional questions.

Transition to the JH

To provide more clear and concise communication as students follow course pathways from Greene to the Junior High and then to the High school, the following changes in course names will apply beginning in 17-18:

In addition to the changes in Mathematics presented in the previous S'more, the JH is changing the names of our courses that are currently labeled "accelerated" in language arts, science and social studies. The curriculum for these courses will not change in any fashion. The same level of rigor will exist.

Beginning with the 17-18 school year, the JH will offer the following core courses in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies: Language Arts 7, Language Arts 7 Honors, Science 7, Science 7 Honors, World History 7, and World History 7 Honors. More information about these courses will be found in our course planner, which will be communicated in the future.

In response to input from parents and teachers, the transition process from sixth to seventh grade will include teacher recommendations for all core course (except for Math 7 Accelerated and Algebra I Accelerated).
