Meet Our New Principal

Mrs. Caitlyn Brooks

Introducing Mrs. Brooks

Dear Moravia Park Families and Community Members,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I introduce myself to you as the newly appointed Principal of Moravia Park Elementary School. I first want to recognize the leadership provided by Mrs. DeShawn White, who served as Moravia’s Managing Principal for the last few months of this past school year. Her leadership has been and will continue to be invaluable to Moravia Park’s community. I am truly honored and humbled to serve as your school leader and I am excited to meet each of you in the weeks ahead as we get ready for a new school year.

Moravia Park Elementary School is a special place to me. It was here in this community that my passion for education was ignited for making the commitment to all children to support them in discovering their passion and potential. My journey as an educator began at Moravia Park Elementary School as a fourth-grade teacher and I am grateful to be able to return to a community that I have a lot of love and respect for. Moravia Park inspired me to commit myself to being a life-long learner and leader in the work alongside the community, in order to provide the best opportunities possible for our scholars.

I am coming to Moravia Park Elementary from Lakeland Elementary Middle School, where I have been serving as their Assistant Principal. Before joining their team as an Assistant Principal, I served as their Resident Principal through the intensive leadership program provided by New Leaders. While leading at Lakeland, I shared my passion for engaging scholars through high quality instruction and scholar leadership initiatives. Prior to Lakeland, I served as an Instructional Coach, Professional Development Facilitator, and Curriculum Writer for Teach For America. Additionally, I served as an Educational Associate, Site-Based Mentor, and elementary teacher at Moravia Park Elementary. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master’s degree in Elementary Education and Leadership from Johns Hopkins University. Again, I am honored to share my experiences and leadership with this beautiful and resilient community.

On a personal note, I am originally from Pennsylvania but have loved making Maryland my home. I enjoy spending time with my family, my husband, and two daughters. Together, we love going to the beach, cheering on our favorite sports teams, reading children’s books, going for bike rides, and finding new places to explore in Baltimore.

I strongly believe in the individual potential of all young people and that schools are the foundation of communities. I am committed to supporting the excellent education and community at Moravia Park Elementary. As your school leader, partnership is important to me, so that we can work together to create and maintain a culture of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. I invite you all to see the opportunities included in this newsletter for us to virtually meet and connect. I look forward to meeting you all and working together to provide an excellent education to our scholars at Moravia Park Elementary!

Warmest Regards,

Caitlyn Brooks
