Spartan Scoop (Week 6 of 38)
September 26th - 30th
A Message from Dr. Vue
Dear Tarpey Family,
The school year is already flying by. It was great to see many of you this afternoon coming out and supporting our Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country students. I am proud of all of the hard work our students have been putting forth in their academics and co-curriculars.
This week we had a large number of students turn in their cookie dough fundraiser tickets. Our students have already sold over $5,000 worth of cookie dough. Way to go, Spartans!
A few reminders for you everyone as we enter the new week:
1. Parents/Family, please remember to enter campus 5 minutes before the bell rings to pick up your child/student.
Regular schedule (Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri) - families can enter campus at 2:30PM.
Early Release (Wed) - families can enter campus at 1:05PM (following the 1st bell).
2. We will be having a School Assessment and Review Team (SART) and PTC Meeting Thursday, September 29th, at 3:00PM and 3:30PM in Room 12B. If you are interested, please stop by to learn more about how to get involved.
Lastly, be sure to check out this weeks Staff Spotlight on Mrs. Maila Xiong, 2nd Grade Teacher.
Thank you and have a great weekend.
Go Spartans!

Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Maila Xiong
This week our staff spotlight is Mrs. Maila Xiong, 2nd grade teacher at Tarpey Elementary. Mrs. Xiong graduated from UC San Diego and completed her teaching credential at Fresno State.
In 1996, she was hired as a first grade teacher at Tarpey and has remained here since.Tarpey has become her second home and the staff has grown to be a part of her extended family. It warms her heart to witness all the students come through her class and come back to visit with stories of success. When Mrs. Xiong is not teaching, she is either gardening or traveling. Her favorite trips include walking the Great Wall of China and kayaking on Halong Bay. Mrs. Xiong is truly an asset to our campus and we thank her for inspiring so many of our students.
Thank you, Mrs. Xiong, for everything you do at Tarpey. We appreciate you!

Teamwork
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Teamwork. Teamwork means you work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal, reliable, and dedicated to helping your team achieve its goals.
Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Those who demonstrate strengths in teamwork often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources in order to further group goals and help toward the greater good.
For individuals, teamwork often means deferring or delaying individual accomplishments in order to ensure that the group maintains a high level of success. Their commitment to the larger group effort makes them good teammates. The positive feelings associated with being part of a larger whole -- can be highly beneficial and combat selfishness and egotism.
To practice and encourage the character strength of teamwork with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
