Monthly Fire Drill Safety Practice~School Wide
At Rancho Elementary we practice regularly monthly safety drills. This month we are practicing a Fire Drill on Friday, November 22nd at 1:35PM. Drills occur monthly at different times of the day.
School is a very safe place to be. At Rancho Elementary we conduct fire drills monthly to be sure everyone in the building knows how to get outside quickly, quietly and safely. A school fire drill may be scheduled and announced in advance so that children can dress appropriately. The element of surprise is not important to practicing the school fire drill. School fire drills must be taken seriously – everyone in the building must participate.
• Students should know the sound of the fire alarm and respond immediately. Stop everything. Listen for instructions. Go quickly and quietly out of the classroom to the assigned meeting place outside the school for roll call.
• Children should respond to the fire alarm no matter where they are in the school. If a child is alone transitioning between buildings or in the bathroom when the alarm sounds, he/she should follow other students outside and report to a trusted teacher or principal to let them know he/she is safe. The teacher or principal will help the child find his or her teacher and classmates. Our Teachers discuss and prepare students by:
• Discussing and walking through the fire drill plan for their classroom.
• Remind students that when the alarm sounds, stop what they are doing; listen for instructions from their teacher.
Please review the Fire Drill Protocols with your student to help prepare and reduce any fears they may be feeling. Thank you for your collaborative efforts and support.
Objectives:
The students will:
• Respond to the sound of the school emergency alarm.
• Identify the outside classroom meeting spot
