Building Knowledge through Text Sets

Imagine a world where students are able to make connections and build knowledge through the texts read in class

Many teachers are teaching reading as an event focused on using strategies to gain comprehension. The goal is to transition from teaching literacy emphasizing strategies to teachers enabling students to build knowledge from texts that students then use for a larger purpose.

This is possible through:

  • Understanding the research behind texts sets
  • Learning how to create text sets
  • Collaborating and sharing with other teachers

Are you interested in furthering your professional growth?

We are looking for people who fit the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated leadership, expertise, and commitment to helping teachers grow and learn

  • Willingness to attend a state meeting that will increase knowledge and understanding about the standards and the corresponding instructional shifts as well as content-specific training that aligns with the goals of the New Jersey Core Advocates

  • Willingness to share this content-specific information with other teams of teachers in local settings, and will receive support and resources to do so

If you are interested in joining us, complete the interest form to join our NJCore Advocates.
