1st Grade at Bear Creek Elementary
Week 25: March 29 - April 2nd, 2021

Reminder:
- Friday, April 2nd is an AISD student holiday/staff development day.
- April 9th is an instructional day.
Announcements:
- There has been a change in our schedule.
We will be combining all virtual non-BLAST learners into one Zoom meeting twice a week.
Both classes will still be seen by both teachers.
Mrs. Preston will conduct small group on Monday's from 11:25am-11:40am
Miss Barbosa will conduct small group on Wednesday's from 11:25am-11:40am.
Student's should have both Zoom link's on their Seesaw pages.
- Last week both classes were introduced "Short A" and "Short E" booklets. It is a great reading and writing component. Students take them home to complete the "Parent Connection" portion. It's a fun game to help them with reading.
- The updated April Special Area calendar will be posted on Blend.
Our learning goals for this week:
Math:
- I can use problem solving steps to help me understand and solve word problems.
- I can represent a word problem with a model and a number sentences to support my solution.
- I can use strategies to add numbers in different ways.
ELAR:
- I can read words with r-controlled vowels or, ore.
- I can read two-syllable words with r-controlled vowels ar, or.
- I can spell with r-controlled vowels or, ore.
- I can read and write high frequency words: almost, also, between, ever, food, really, sing, three.
Big Ideas:
- I can write about how an animal's characteristics help it eat.
- I can identify how an animal's environment affects the characteristics it has.
- I can identify how the environment affects what people's shelter and activities.

During our Big Ideas block, we got the students in to their assigned groups, they chose an animal and "task" for their research project. All papers will be printed our for them to use and present on Thursday 4/1/2021.
