National and regional student affairs organizations have recognized the need for an organization to serve the international community of student affairs service professionals, by improving communication and sharing best practices, internships; promoting exchanges, conferences, colloquia, symposia, and professional development opportunities. Member’s needs are guiding the focus of IASAS work - such as assisting countries in the development of student service workers and the creation of organizational structures to focusing in on the following themes:

- Assessment models, strategies and practices
· Cultural diversity
- Understanding, appreciating and valuing global diversity
· Access to higher education and retention of students
