SCHOOL GOAL: Kindness (Manaakitanga)
Kindness or Manaakitanga, is showing care and concern for other people, animals and the environment – ‘caring for the people’. It is part of our school vision and one of our school values.
We need kindness for people to ‘get on’ and relate to each other, animals and the environment. “Manāki Tanagata, Manāki whenua - To care for the people and to care for the land” this is a big part of our school vision.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You practise environmentally friendly habits such as recycling
You take excellent care of your friends, new people
You accept that people are different
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another great week at Vogeltown with very settled classes and learners. I just want to mention, again, thanks for the support of what we are doing as a school and as a nation. We could be moving to Level 1 as early as next week and this is because of the determination of all New Zealanders - well done, Vogeltown whanau!
We are certainly beginning to get a lot busier here at Vogeltown after a couple of weeks of quietness. The seniors are gearing up for interschool which will begin in Term 3, we have the Life Ed truck here next week, Kapahaka has begun with Whaea Raewyn, Whanau events, school visits etc. A quick reminder, if you need to come in to the school, please sign your child and yourself, in/out on the tablets in the offices.
The move to Level 1 will help us to 'free up' some of the restrictions we have put in place on both school sites. However, we will still continue to push the message of good hygiene and we will continue to have sanitiser at the gates and in the classrooms.
One of the procedures we put in place was limiting the number of adults in to the schools sites. Although this is not the 'Vogeltown way' it has had massive positives for our learners and teachers. We have noticed that our learners, especially our Juniors, have become much more independent and we have had many comments from our parents/caregivers about how much easier morning 'drop offs' have become. In discussion with our leadership team, we have decided this is something we want to continue as a school - at least till the end of the term. At the gate, on both sites, we have rostered on a teacher to meet and greet our learners and we would appreciate it if we could continue the 'drop and kiss' routine we have become accustomed to over the last 4 weeks. We will, of course review this and survey the community at the end of this term.
A reminder, anyone with flu like symptons should stay at home. We are beginning to see the 'sniffles' and 'coughs' happening as we move in to winter. To keep everyone safe, please err on the side of caution and keep your child home if they are sick. Remember to let the school office know if your child is away too.
Our Te Reo focus for this week has been:
He aha te tae? What is the colour?
He_______________ te tae
Ma - white, whero - red, kakriki - green, Maota - dark green, Karera - light green, Pango - black, kowhai - yellow, kahurangi - blue, kikorangi - blue, karaka - orange, mawhero - pink, kiwikiw - grey, paraone - brown, tawa - purple.
Thanks whanau
Mr O
CONGRATULATIONS!
We are extremely proud of Josh and Emma, who met at Vogeltown as teachers and have developed an amazing relationship! We truly are a Vogeltown family when we have our own members becoming engaged!
A big well done to Mr Stirling who made the proposal a very special occasion, one I am sure Miss King will never forget!
If you see Josh or Emma around, give them say congrats - our kids certainly have!

LIFE EDUCATION - THE CLASSROOM IN THE TRUCK!
The Life Education truck, programme and learning is part of Vogeltown School's PE and health curriculum. We have Life Education every year at Vogeltown. Ask your child what they have been learning about in the 'Harold Truck'.
This year you will find the truck parked at the junior school.
A big thanks to everyone who has given their permission forms for Life Education, we need these back asap. Remember, we are not charging the $3 for Life Education this year, as we took the Ministry of Education's donation scheme last year.

AIRTIME
My owner called me, I ran to her. She picked me up and put me in the inflatable boat. We had been floating around for a while, then, out of nowhere, we went flying over a wave! I got massive airtime!

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Remember, we are trying to limit the number of adults that come on to the school sites, as this is the most 'likely' way that Covid will come in to the school settings.
2) Please avoid parking on the broken yellow lines outside both school sites. Doing this hinders our Road Patrol's ability to see down the road. Thanks.
