Note from our Principal
I am delighted to say that we had a wonderful first week of school and are well on the way to an amazing 2019-2020 academic year! At St. Bernard, the faculty and staff are passionate about Catholic education and look forward to partnering with you as we continue to provide students with an engaging, rigorous, and high-quality faith-based education. Parents are every child’s first teacher and by working together, we can ensure that your child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and academic needs are met. I welcome you to engage with us in this unique partnership. To that end, I would encourage you to attend Parent Orientation on August 22nd from 6PM-7PM. This important meeting is set aside so that teachers have dedicated time to share their routines, procedures and student expectations for the year.
We recognize the sacrifices you make to send your children to St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic School. The faith-based education you have chosen provides an atmosphere warmed by the powerful presence of our loving and faithful God. I urge you to support our school through your prayers and continued dedication. The close ties between family and school reinforce our shared academic goals of college and heaven and nurture our faith tradition.
May God Bless you!
Laurie Senecal

Technology
In Technology, the students are being reminded of the importance of practicing internet safety. We are using a resource which is built upon the shoulders of Jesus’ parable about The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). During class, each grade is exploring the meaning of one verse as it relates to being an online citizen while completing five lessons specifically related to the challenges found at each grade. The curriculum is designed to develop students’ understanding that their citizenship and efforts to live gospel values extends to their presence in the digital world.
In the Gospel narrative of the Good Samaritan, the listener asks Jesus, “Who is My Neighbor?” Undoubtedly, this question has even more significance when our neighbor is somewhere out there in cyberspace. Never before have we had the ability to reach out to so many and cross huge distances and barriers. With this new freedom and possibility of communication comes the need for a gospel approach. The Good Samaritan story told by Jesus reminds us to be compassionate, treat others with dignity, and take care of our neighbor, a lesson we all need to remember and apply whether our neighbor is someone we see daily, or an acquaintance on social media.
