Principal's Message - Conferences & Report Cards
Dear Arleta Families - Family/Teacher Conferences are a great way for families to check in on how students are doing and for Families & Teachers to strengthen their relationships and plans for supporting student success. K-5 Families, if you did not have a chance to sign up for Family/Teacher Conferences, please reach out to your teacher via email and set up an appointment.
We will not be giving out report cards for 1st Quarter for students K - 5 due to conferences. K-5 Families will receive a Parent-Teacher Conference Form in place of a report card for 1st Quarter only. For the remainder of the year K-5 families will report cards. 678 families will receive report cards for all 4 quarters throughout the year.
If you have questions, concerns or thoughts, please text or call 971-347-4566 or email dkruger@pps.net
Sincerely, Diana
Great Oregon Shakeout - 10/17 @10:17
Arleta will be participating with other schools across Oregon in The Great Oregon Shakeout on October 17th at 10:17am.
This is an opportunity to practice what we will do if there is an earthquake in Oregon. Students will practice Drop, Cover & Hold On and then evacuating the building.
If you are interested in participating in Emergency Planning for Arleta, please contact Erin Franks @ erin@erinfrank.com
If you are interested in The Great Oregon Shakeout and how to prepare your family for an Earthquake, check out their website The Great Oregon Shakeout
Calling all 3rd-8th graders! OBOB registration opens Oct. 14th!
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide program to encourage students - regardless of their reading skills - to read good books and work together to compete against other teams in battles of reading comprehension and teamwork. This video provides a good overview of the process. This is Arleta’s 3rd year participating, and we’d love to have even more students join us!
Students form teams of 3-5 people (though please note that only 4 students can participate at a time in battles - the 5th player would be a rotating alternate) and work together to read the books in their division. The books are always excellent and varied in style, genre, and point of view to appeal to many different types of readers. They are available at our Arleta Library, the Multnomah County Library, and our local bookstores. Teams meet to discuss the books and quiz each other. Then in February, teams battle against one another to see who will represent Arletal at the Regional Battles in each division. It is a lot of fun, a great way for kids to flex and stretch their reading muscles, and teaches invaluable skills in teamwork!
Please look for registration packets with more information to be coming home next week

INVITATION TO JOIN ECO-SCHOOL NETWORK
We are looking for a few dedicated volunteers to lead sustainability efforts at Arleta. Small teams have formed at 70 schools around Oregon through the Eco-School Network and have made significant changes in their schools, from eliminating plastic utensils to anti-idling campaigns. There are lots of opportunities to make create a healthier environment for our students.
The commitment is attending 4 free trainings, 6:30-8:15pm on Mondays Oct 14, 21, 28, and Nov 4th, and likely some additional meeting times to plan and implement changes.
