This Week's Theme: CREATIVITY
Creativity is defined as coming up with unique ideas, different from anyone else's, that are useful in some way. How creative are you? Do you take opportunities to think differently and to hone your creative thinking skills? Check out this week's elementary video, "We Need a Bigger Definition of Creativity" to learn more about what creativity means.
Below are a few ways you can exercise your brain to get better at creative thinking!
Ways to Hone Your Creativity
- Practice divergent thinking.
Come up with as many ideas as you can BEFORE choosing one to try. - Be open-minded.
When you are open to new ideas or trying new things, you gain new perspectives, which helps you to think differently. - Practice on something you enjoy.
Focus on a subject that you enjoy because it is much easier to stay motivated to try something new! - "Go rogue."
Find out what others have done and do something completely different! On purpose! - Find a mentor.
Find someone who looks for unique ways to do things and pick up some pointers! - "Sleep on it."
Give yourself a break and walk away from a problem for a bit. This will give your subconscious a chance to work on things. Some of the best ideas pop into your head while you are doing something else - sleeping, showering, exercising, or even driving or walking to school!
