LITERACY
Writer's Workshop~ The majority of class time this past week has been spent writing poems. Poetry Slides are due Wednesday, May 10. Parents...please ask your son/daughter to share poems they've written (Limerick, Parody, Tanka, Me: A to Z, Cinquain, Diamante, Couplet, Haiku, etc.) Also, please review their Poetry Slam poems and help them find costumes/props to enhance their performance. Thank you!
Interactive Read Aloud~ We continue reading Diamond Willow by Helen Frost.
Reader's Workshop~ Students continue to participate in small groups every Tuesday and Thursday. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, they read their independent reading books and write about their reading in their Reader's Notebooks.
Language Workshop~ We continue to read a variety of poems focusing on rhyme, rhythm, line breaks, white space, repetition, figurative language, and imagery.
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
SOCIAL STUDIES: We are right in the middle of mini-Greece and Rome projects. Next, we will study the Medieval Times.

Core 1: We are currently working on Chapter 4 of the CC2 (7th grade) book. Students are practicing operations with negative numbers and working on scale drawings and similar figures. The test on Chapters 3 and 4 will be the week of May 15 (probably Friday, May 19).
Core 2/3: We are beginning Chapter 9 this week which is the last chapter of the book. Students will learn about surface area, volume, and how to solve problems involving percents.
