Digital Learning Days and Coronavirus Updates
Thank you for your positivity during such a trying time in our nation. I understand the uncertainties you may have and questions that may still be coming up for you. One thing that is for sure, is that our staff will continue to provide a positive learning experience for your child digitally in our online program for digital learning.
Please begin to have your child log-on to the eCLASS pages on Monday by 9:00 AM to begin their day. It is imperative that they pace themselves and are allowed breaks, get some time to read and also some time for physical activity. As we move forward this week, teachers will be giving feedback and additional work to ensure that they still gain access to our AKS.
Our teachers will also try to administer reasonable assignments as to not overwhelm, but please use your parental judgment for the hours of the day they will commit. There are also many resources, like the one from Comcast, who are offering discounted or free access to the internet, so please check if internet is an issue.
We will have limited access to the building next week. If your child needs something that they may have left, please call the school and we will assist. Our playground, gym, outdoor classroom, is also closed at this time so that we can also clean and sanitize those areas to support our "stay and hold," that we are in, so please be mindful of this.
We will also be handing out food at our school between the hours of 11-1 and at bus stops from 11-12 for our Sycamore students (and any others), under the age of 18 years old. Please be patient with us as we do this for the first time.
If you are on Facebook, please join our Sycamore ES page so that you can be updated, as this is a great way for me to keep you informed on the go.
Lunches provided during March 16-20
As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools' digital learning day schedule, school buses will deliver lunch to bus stops in your area. These lunches, available for anyone 18 years of age or younger, will be provided at no cost to the individual through the federal School Nutrition Program. The student or child must be present to receive the meal. Again, Gwinnett County school buses will be making stops at their regular bus stops in your area the week of March 16-20 between 11 a.m. and noon to deliver meals to students. In order to get a meal, the child will need to be at the stop when the bus arrives. We thank you for your patience and hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.
Sycamore Parents,
Class Placements for Next Year:
You should have received a colored document that will allow you to detail any requests for next year 2020-2021. All requests for teachers can't be promised, but we will try our best. These will be due no later than March 20th, so please make sure that you complete these prior to this date. As always, we will have classes confirmed in July and won't release any class lists until our Open House, which will be held on Friday, July 31st. So much can change between now and next school year, so we want to make sure we aren't premature in our class list delivery.
Andriux Zapata update:
We are happy to report that Andriux is being released from the hospital! He will continue treatment and has a long road ahead, but we are hopeful that his condition will improve for good. He has filmed a video for the students and we will show it this week so that they can understand what life will be like for him, with this new diagnosis. Thank you for all of your support and please know that he will still need you to surround him with your thoughts and prayers! Go Andriux!!

What is i-Ready? K-5 Student Learning Website that WORKS!
- i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your child’s teacher(s) determine your child’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your child’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Instruction.
- The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning.
- i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your child engaged as they learn.
Georgia Milestones Test
Is your child in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade?
If so, click here to read some frequently asked questions about the Georgia Milestones test.
The Study/Resource Guides provided by the state are intended to serve as a resource for parents and students. They contain practice questions and learning activities for each content area. The standards identified in the Study/Resource Guides address a sampling of the state-mandated content standards. Click here to access the Study/Resource Guides for each grade level.
Spring Milestones Schedule Released - 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students
If your child is in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, he/she will be taking the Georgia Milestones Assessment in the spring. Parent Portal Account
The Parent Portal is a website that allows you to log in and see your child's information, such as attendance, grades, standardized test scores, etc.
If you need to register with the portal, please print and complete this registration form and turn it in to the main office. Along with the completed form, you are required to show a photo I.D. for verification.
Remember to Save Those Box Tops!
One easy way to support your school is through the Box Tops for Education collection. Send in Box Tops from products you purchase and have your child place in the wooden house near the cafeteria. This fundraiser has helped us earn hundreds of dollars for our school!
School Communication-Changes
We miss this feature, as it was a great way to communicate with parents and our community. However, we hope to keep you informed on our website, Principal's Desk, and social media pages.
We have received approval to utilize Class Dojo, so you will be getting correspondence from your child's teacher if they use this format for communication.

Friendly Reminders
- All visitors will be asked at the door who they are and their reason for entering the building by our front desk clerk. Always have your ID ready to show every time. Vanessa Camacho-Chapparo is our new front desk clerk and is happy to join our team. Please be patient with our new district requirement that ensures a stronger and safe environment for our school community.
- We will begin our morning announcements at 8:45 AM daily and ask that all car riders are in their seats ready to begin their day prior to 8:45 AM.
- We are going to use Mypaymentsplus for all of our monetary transactions besides small fundraisers throughout the year. Please make sure that you sign up for this with the information below.
- We are infusing social emotional learning with our PBIS discipline program. Every classroom will have morning meeting daily where they will greet one another, share something based on a focused topic, engage in an activity and end with a morning message. This 10 minute activity every day ties to our AKS, but also helps to start the day off positively. Ask your child about the amazing experience.
