November 2019
Greetings NASSS Members and Affiliates,
In this November newsletter, you will find a few final reminders as we prepare for our 2019 NASSS annual conference in Virginia Beach, VA!!! This newsletter also includes other noteworthy information to include updates from the Executive Board and a membership reminder.
In the News. . .
This fall semester has brought forth a number of newsworthy events, issues, and legislation and I am sure many of these topics will be presented on and discussed at the 2019 NASSS conference November 6-9, 2019. I am eager, as I hope that you are, to hear the multiple perspectives and learn about the varying approaches to address these topics. As members of NASSS, may we continue to always: " . . . promote, stimulate, and encourage the sociological study of play, games, sport, and contemporary physical culture."
Annual Conference. . .
The NASSS Program Schedule is set and available for download. NASSS President-Elect, Dr. Jeff Montez de Oca and the program committee developed an engaging theme to promote conversation, research, and practice: "Sport Sociology and the Responsibility for Decolonial Praxis, Decolonizing Minds, Indigenizing Hearts." Go to our NASSS website or the Sched conference app to review any updates to the schedule to include the days, times, and moderators of your respective sessions. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your session organizer(s) first and they will communicate with Dr. Montez de Oca - this year's conference program organizer.
Again, the conference will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. For more details on the conference accommodations, airport, registration, the DCCCs +1 Initiative and more please visit our website at https://nasss.org/2019-conference/
While I know I am biased, there are so many amazing conference sessions and events that you as members and affiliates crafted to include our traditional sessions like the Alan Ingham Memorial Lecture, Take a Student to Lunch, DCCC Meeting and Breakfast, Plenary Sessions, Run with the Presidents, and NASSS Silent Auction.
