Meet our 2021-2022 Student Leadership Electors

Mentorship and Tutoring

Peer Mentoring

The Peer Mentors have been busy! Many of the Peer Mentors have been circulating through middle school lunch waves introducing themselves and making connections with the students! During advisory peer mentor will be joining classrooms to lead theme based activities.

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is fully operational and is a great program for students to use to help them through their academic year! We currently have 17 trained peer tutors who will be volunteering their time during their academic study to work with students grades 6-12 who have a matching academic study. Students will not be taken out of class for peer tutoring. If students are interested in working with a peer tutor to improve their grades or need some help with a certain assignment or an upcoming exam, please use the link below to sign up! A new link is provided on Schoology every week for the upcoming week!

Mediation

The Dragon Peer Mediation program provides an opportunity for students who are conflicting to talk out their disputes and design a plan that benefits their well-being. Students will meet with trained student peer mediators to discuss the conflict they are having, and at the end of the mediation a plan will be designed by the students with the help of the peer mediators that will allow the students to continue their experience at MLC without conflict. Students can request mediation by contacting their teachers, counselor, or Mr. Faeth. Teachers and counselors also can refer students to mediation and we have already conducted mediations this year that have been successful.

If your child is interested in any of these opportunities please reach out to Mr. Faeth by email at TFaeth@crec.org or message him on Schoology.

CLASS OF 2022 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Daniel T.

I've been attending school at the Metropolitan Learning Center since I was in 6th grade, all the way back in 2015. I'm currently in my senior year of high school. I'm very glad I attended high school at MLC, it has challenged me in ways a standard public high school would not challenge me. MLC has done a very good job of preparing me for college, and I've had an amazing experience while attending the school. For college, I plan to be somewhere in the northeast, and major in philosophy, and potentially become a lawyer. Actually, it's thanks to a class at MLC called Theory of Knowledge that made me want to major in philosophy.

Kara D.

My experience at MLC will not be forgotten. Since I came to MLC in 7th grade which was a year later than everyone else, everyone had already developed their own cliques. I had found it difficult to make friends considering I had the same class at my previous school. But eventually I found friends and the many field trips and grade activities made it difficult to stay on the outside. I am grateful for my experience at MLC because of the connections I have made with my classmates and teachers. After quarantine, the connection with my peers and classmates strengthened. After high school I plan to go to college in New York. My major will either be in business or in environmental science. I hope to stay in contact with my class, and I hope I had as much as a positive impact that they've had on me.

SAFEGRAD COMMITTEE

Every year the senior parents form a committee to assist PTO in running SafeGrad. The past 2 years have been unprecedented. We are hoping that the Class of 2022 will have a "normal" SafeGrad experience this year. We are asking that all interested senior parents who are interested in assisting with SafeGrad please email Ms. Gibson at sgibson@crec.org.
