10/12/2020 - 10/18/2020
Message from the Principal
Hello Spartans,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful fall break and are ready to finish the semester strong. As we continue to refine our Distance Learning approach, our teachers and staff will be participating in a professional development day this upcoming Friday October 16, 2020. We will be analyzing our student grades from the first progress report and looking at strategies to support each of our students, especially those who are struggling academically.
The goal of this professional development opportunity is to look at ways that we can support our students, provide interventions and increase school connectivity. Due to this PD schedule, we will not have live "Google Meets" sessions on Friday 10/16/2020. Students will be provided with an asynchronous assignment to complete during that time period, and the submission of the completed assignments will count towards attendance for the day.
I continue to encourage those of you that have not completed a lunch application for this school year, to please do so. Not only do you have a chance to qualify for free or reduced cost lunches, but additionally, our schools receive Federal funding based on applications submitted, not only for those that qualify for the program. In addition, for those that qualify, you could be eligible for the following benefits:
- Fee-reduced and/or free College Entrance exams:
- Advanced Placement (AP)
- Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)
- American College Testing (ACT)
- Fee waiver on college applications
- Household internet and SDGE discounts
- Student city bus pass discount
- Financial benefits – EBT card
Let's have a great tenth week of Distance Learning Spartans!
Thank you!

Home of Champions!
- Pruebas universitarias estadounidenses (ACT)

Message from the SDSU APIDA Resource Center
October 2020
Dear Friends:
The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Resource Center opened in July 2020. I am proud and excited to be promoting our inaugural SDSU Filipinx American History Month (FAHM) celebration this October! October is a very special month for the Filipino/a/x community. It commemorates the arrival of the first Filipinx people who landed in what is now Morro Bay, California, on October 18, 1587. In addition, notable Filipino American labor leader, Larry Itliong, was born on October 25th.
The APIDA Resource Center, in partnership with the AB Samahan student organization, the Bayanihan Employee Resource Group, and the APIDA Employee Resource Group, have created a powerful and inspiring series of events to celebrate FIlipinx American experiences and contributions.
October is going to be an exciting month! We welcome all members of the SDSU and San Diego community to participate and engage in our Filipinx American History Month events. Events are centered around the following main themes: Filipinx Votes and Voices Count!, COVID Impacts on Fil-Am Communities, Filipinx Stories and Representation, Larry Itliong Day, and Filipinx History and Culture. Our speaker list includes experts in their field, local community leaders and politicians, artists, and much more. We are also working with the San Diego Asian Film Festival and San Diego Filipino Cinema to support Filipinx film-making.

Oktubre 2020
