Welcome to Term 2

Already back into the swing of Term 2!

Our students and teachers returned ready and energized for Term 2 which is already proving to be just as fun-filled and stimulating as the last term - except maybe with a little extra NAPLAN pressure for some students. Our NAPLAN assessments will take place in the next couple of weeks once we receive the assessments from the Board of Studies, New South Wales. Our teachers will continue to support NAPLAN students by practicing and offering useful test-taking tips until the actual exam days. We encourage our students sitting NAPLAN to take regular Brain Breaks where needed as these can improve students’ concentration and relieve stress. Some examples include indulging in therapeutic art, engaging in a sport or physical activity, or even perhaps a touch of Pilates or Yoga.

For those of you who have not purchased class photos from last year, please purchase them directly from Team 2 Photo Studio, in the Holland Village Shopping Centre (#03-48; HP: 9851-7303). Before you purchase them, you can look at a sample of your child's class photo on our website. Follow this link enter the password: 2015CP

I hope you enjoy reading about what's in store for your child this month.

Warm regards,

Dr. Vanessa von Auer

A belated Happy Mother's Day!

“Mothers hold their child’s hand for a moment and their heart for a lifetime.”

Happy Mothers’ Day to all IIS mothers! In this special month, here are just a few of the wonderful dedications to our Mum's.

Term 2 Excursion

Our Term 2 excursion reconnected us back to nature and living things around us. Our senior classes visited the SPCA where they learned more about various pets and about being compassionate towards other animals around them.

Our junior classes explored nature thorough play at Playeum. Students had the opportunity to engage with nature and natural materials through captivating hands-on activities

The Cleanest Class Award

At IIS, we emphasise the importance of responsibility. To put this extremely important value into practise, we started the termly ‘Cleanest Class Award’ to encourage our students to take charge of their own classroom and belongings. We are so proud to see the Prep class participating in their daily classroom cleanup and receiving the ‘Cleanest Class Award’ this term. Keep it up guys!

Taking learning beyond the core subjects!

Every term, IIS students explore different topics of interest that are beyond their core curriculum content. We explore the world through history and geography as well as also encouraging our students to stay abreast of current affairs. Let us now take a sneak peak at some of the exciting happenings lately at IIS.

Students from Grade 2 travelled around the world to learn about the unique cultures of different countries. They visited places like Mexico, Vietnam, Germany, Africa, Netherlands and more! Check out the crafts below, which they helped to create after their journeys!

Behind the News is an engaging and fascinating platform our Grade 4 and 5s have enjoyed in order to stay in touch with today’s current affairs. Take a look at our curious students uncovering stories around the world through individual reading as well as group discussion.

Term 2 Parent Talk Series

This term we have invited The Language Boutique to come and speak at our Parent Talk about supporting children's English language and literacy progression in the home. They will be sharing helpful hints and practical strategies that you can use to encourage your children’s literacy development. The talk will be interactive and will focus on everyday activities that can easily be achieved. It is applicable for both our junior and middle school parents and we encourage as many parents as possible to attend.
