Jackson eNews
Hello Jackson Families!
Since our students returned from Winter Break on January 4, we have enjoyed hearing about their break, seeing them reconnect with their teachers and friends, and watching them settle back into their classroom routines! Our Jackson Jaguars are ready to learn!
On their first day back, the students were able to celebrate Jackson's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Orensten! Since Ms. Orensten, 2nd grade bilingual teacher and team leader, was not able to be at the Winter assembly where the announcement was originally made, we honored her with a parade through the grade level hallways! We are so proud to have Ms. Orensten representing Jackson as our Teacher of the Year!
Monday, January 16, is a student/teacher holiday to celebrate the birthday, life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be no school on Monday, but we will see everyone back at Jackson on Tuesday, January 17.
We have something yummy to look forward to when we return next week! Thursday, January 19, is PTA Spirit Night at Cicis Pizza! We hope to see all of our Jaguars at Cicis for food, friends and fun! Tell the cashier you’re a Jackson Jaguar and Cicis will donate a portion of the proceeds to PTA! Please see the flyer below for more details.
Have a great weekend!

Morning Arrival Time Reminder
Hi Parents,
Students that are dropped off at school in the morning need to arrive between 7:00-7:30. Breakfast is available at school and is served from 7:00-7:30.
Students are counted tardy if they are not in their classroom ready to learn by 7:40. This does not mean pulling up to the front at 7:40. Tardies will add up to count as absences if they are excessive and could result in legal consequences.
Please leave early enough to allow for traffic or other delays to be sure your child arrives on time each day. If you are late, you will need to park and walk your child inside.
Thank you for ensuring that your student is ready to get their day off to a great start!

Campus Visitor Guidelines
The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to PISD and Jackson Elementary. We have a number of programs and protocols in place to ensure controlled access to our building. Please take a moment to review the following Campus Visitor Guidelines.
- When a visitor arrives at the front entry doors at Jackson, they must use the intercom to communicate their reason for visiting the school.
- Once a visitor is “buzzed” in to the office vestibule, they should not hold the doors open for visitors approaching behind them. EVERY visitor must use the intercom to state their reason for visiting.
- Once in the office area, visitors must show ID (Driver’s License or Passport) to obtain a printed visitor’s badge. There is no entry into the secured area of the building without a visitor or volunteer badge.
- If a visitor is presenting a driver’s license as identification, it will be scanned in to the Raptor Visitor Management System during their first visit to campus for the current school year. This information is held in Raptor for the remainder of the school year. On subsequent visits, if our Front Desk personnel can access a returning visitor’s driver’s license information in Raptor, they may not be required to present their driver’s license again and a visitor’s badge will be printed.
- If a visitor is presenting a Passport as identification, Passport information must be re-entered in the Raptor System at every subsequent visit in order for a visitor’s badge to be printed.
- If a parent comes to eat lunch with their child and does not have any ID with them (and their driver’s license information is not saved in the Raptor System), they will not be allowed to enter the secured areas of the building to eat lunch with their student that day.
- If a visitor needs to use a courtesy phone or restroom (without obtaining a visitor's badge), they will remain in sight of or accompanied by office personnel at all times.

Counselors' Corner
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the website/program, Character First Education. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, keychain and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal!
The character trait for January is Obedience. We will be discussing what obedience means and how students can exhibit the trait during classroom community circles. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!

Dads can volunteer for as little as an hour on their day to help monitor recess, lunches, and outdoor/gym activities.
