News & Updates
Hello CELC Families,
Last week was filled with a lot of laughter and learning! Each week, the kindergarteners study a new color word. This week is orange. Lessons and activities around the color orange will happen throughout the week. On Thursday, students are encouraged to wear orange.
The high temperatures caused us to have multiple indoor recesses. We are hoping that this week is cooler! Please continue to send your students to school in cool, comfortable clothes.Thank you to Viejas and the Craddock family for your generous water bottle donation! It is very much appreciated.
Thank you to everyone that attended CELC's first PTA meeting and Back to School Night. We had an amazing turn out. We are thrilled to have our 2022-23 PTA board voted in!
I hope you and your students enjoy Monday at home. Remember that there is no school on September 5th in observance of Labor Day.
Here is a list of the latest updates and news to keep you informed:
- CELC kindergarteners are beginning iReady assessments on their school Chromebooks. We have a limited amount of headphones on hand. If you are able to send your student to school with headphones that they can keep in their desk, it would be greatly appreciated. TK students do not participate in iReady.
- We had a generous donation of new backpacks dropped off. If you know any AUSD students that need a backpack, please stop by the office. They are free to anyone in need.
- Reminder: We love pets but they are not allowed on campus. Please do not bring them on campus.
- If you haven't completed it yet, please take a moment to fill our CELC's media release at https://forms.gle/1eKN5ZRcwtsF5cB4A
The front gate opens at 8:35 a.m. for families eating breakfast on campus. Limited supervision is available at the tables beginning at 8:40 a.m.
Gates are locked by 9:10 a.m.
For the safety and security of students and staff, gates are locked during school hours.
Afternoon gates open 5 minutes before dismissal.
- Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. We still are required to follow COVID protocols for illnesses. Please let the office know the reason your child is out and what symptoms they have.
We LOVE volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please pick up the required paperwork in the office. All volunteers must be cleared and either be vaccinated or test negative within 7 days of the event. The office needs a copy of your CDL, and TB results to process the application.
We still need School Site Council volunteers. If you are interested, please contact the school office.
Before and after school care is available. Please contact our ESS Coordinator, Natalija Worrell, if you have any questions at nworrell@alpineschools.net
For transportation questions, please visit AUSD's website at https://www.alpineschools.net/page/transportation
Here is to another awesome week of learning. I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday and Monday. See you all on Tuesday, September 6th.

School begins at 9:00 a.m. Dismissal is at 1:30 p.m. Please do not park in the bus or fire lane while picking up or dropping off your students.

AUSD 2022-23 LCAP GOALS
The Governor's budget for education mandated that every school district in California needs to update its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP is intended to be a three-year plan to improve student achievement by setting annual goals for the district in eight priority areas. Each of the priorities has established data requirements to track district progress improving student achievement. The LCAP requires Districts to gather input from students, teachers, parents, and community members to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the District. Our District staff worked together with all of our stakeholder groups to gather input and craft the draft of our Local Control Accountability Plan. Here are AUSD's 2022-23 LCAP Goals:
Goal #1: Effective Instruction and Curriculum - Provide equitable access to high-quality classroom curriculum and instruction in an inclusive environment that promotes student success.
Goal #2: Safe and Respectful Environments - Ensure all school sites are safe and have healthy and welcoming climates for staff, students, and their families so that all students feel connected and are motivated to attend and ready to learn.
Goal #3: Equitable and Culturally Responsible Systems - Ensure systems and processes eliminate barriers to student success and are equitable and culturally responsive to the needs of our students and their families.

Child Nutrition Services
Under a grant from the State of California called Universal Meals, ALL students K-12 will be provided FREE breakfasts and lunches until June 30, 2025. No money will be needed for your student(s) to receive meals at school. If snacks are available at your student(s) school, those are not considered meals and can be purchased with cash or funds from their School Cafe account. However, we still need ALL students to have a Free & Reduced Application on file for the upcoming school year regardless if they are eligible or not. This application is used to determine the funding our school receives for this program through the California Department of Education and the USDA. All parents, please fill out this application as soon as possible at www.SchoolCafe.com. If you are creating a new account you will need your student’s ID number. Our School District is listed as ALPINE USD. If you have any questions or need assistance with the application, please feel free to contact me at: Phone: (619) 445-3639 or Email: kmassey@alpineschools.net
Thank you,
Kelly Massey
