Update: Charter School Program Grant: Cohort 3
The Indiana Department of Education(IDOE) released a Request for Proposals for the Quality Counts, Charter School Program Grant on May 15. Grant applications to start a new charter school, replicate an existing high-quality charter school model, or expand an existing high-quality charter school will be accepted for up to $900,000 of funding.
The IDOE has received approval to modify the definition of “expansion” as related to the Indiana Quality Counts Charter School Program grant.
Previously, the Indiana Charter School Program grant defined “expansion” as a 50 percent or more increase in charter school enrollment, or, a grade level increase, in order to apply as an “expanding” school for charter school program grant funds.
The approved amendment has provided us with the ability to allow high quality charter schools that have increased their enrollment by 20 percent or more to apply for charter school grant funding. Below are the new requirements for an existing school wishing to apply for funding as an expanding charter school:
- An A or a B Federal grade
- Adding on a grade level or a 20% or more student enrollment in the previous academic year
In order to facilitate the application process for newly qualifying schools, we are extending the application deadline by two weeks, to Thursday, August 15 at 1:30 pm EST.
