Building a Better Graduate
GCSD is committed to helping students prepare for their future. The "G+", or Graduation Plus, initiative starts in our youngest students and continues until graduation. Building from the ideas put forth in SC's Profile of a Graduate, "G+" recognizes that students need more than content knowledge. They also need skills and characteristics such as critical thinking and problem solving, integrity and perseverance, and knowing how to learn.
Learn more about the G+ initiative.
Oakview's faculty and staff work to help our students become a better graduate in many different ways. One exciting opportunity for our 4th and 5th grade students is the "Cricket Wicket Knockdown Challenge"! This challenge will allow our upper elementary students to practice their creativity and innovation skills while participating in a fun engineering challenge!
You'll find more information about the challenge in flyers sent home as well as below. We cannot wait to see what engineering innovations our Oakview 4th and 5th graders come up with!

Nominations Now Open for A.R.M.E.S AfterSchool Program
Students may be nominated and audition for as many areas as they have interest but once accepted into the program, can only participate in one area per year. A separate nomination form for each discipline is required.
How does the process work?
Anyone can nominate a student, including teachers, parents, other adults, or self. Go to the ARMES website and click on the 'ARMES Nomination' link to complete the online form.
Nominations will be open from February 6 through April 8, 2020.
5th Grade Transition to Middle School
It is time for our 5th grade parents to start thinking about Middle School! I will be working closely with your children, their teachers and the middle school counselors to get your child registered and prepared for next year. Sixth grade students will be placed in English and Math classes according to their grades, SCREADY scores, and MAP scores. Students will pick which electives (related arts classes) that they want to take. I will send home more information about this. In the meantime, you may want to take your child to the curriculum night of their middle school. For schools not listed, you will need to go to that school's website and get that information. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Information on our main feeder schools are listed below:
- Beck Academy - Thursday, February 13 @ 5:30 in the Beck Academy Cafeteria
