October 4, 2019
The Moreau Heights family is committed to providing a positive and safe learning environment to support responsible and productive citizens.
Character Trait for October - Responsibilty
Check the Moreau Heights Shared Drive for Morning Meeting Lessons - Week 7
There will be 4 lessons provided with Second Steps as your lesson on Tuesday.
We understand that right now lessons in Second Steps are hard to get through in one day per week. This is TRULY a challenge. You may need to keep the same focus/lesson across multiple weeks at this point since the other Morning Meeting lessons as so full.
Once we are finished with the "full" and prepared Morning Meeting lessons, you will have additional days each week to extend the learning from one Second Steps lesson.
We hope this suggestion is helpful in trying to determine how best to handle the time crunch you are feeling with the Second Steps lessons.
PLC - Collaborative Norms
Posing Questions
Effective in gaining a better understanding of a topic or to dig deeper into a question being asked by a colleague. We use questioning to be sure we are understanding what others have to say, as well as the impact for ourselves and our students.
Paraphrasing
Used to restate what we understand from others, to be sure we TRULY understand. This can be a great practice at the close of a meeting or when completing a discussion to be sure we are all on the "same page" with what has been decided and next steps. It is also a good practice when in the midst of a discussion by paraphrasing what a colleague has said or asked to make sure you understand their perspective or understanding.
There will be table tents for each team to have visible at meetings to support the practice of these norms to support collaboration.

Kelly's Koaching Korner - Rally Coach
Rally Coach is a fun and engaging way for students to work together, it also helps ensure increased participation among all students.
Like many of the other cooperative learning approaches, this strategy is particularly valuable for students who need a little extra assistance when learning a new concept in class.

Please Be On Time
- Please make sure you are in the gym at 7:15. We've had several classes still in the gym at 7:20, and sometimes even 7:25. The staff that supervises has to get to other locations so it's imperative that you are in the gym on time to pick up your class.
- Please make sure you are dropping students off on time for specials and picking them up on time. You will need to leave your room early to make sure you arrive at your time for drop off and for pick up. Specials teachers will need to make sure they are on time as well. This may mean cleaning up early.
- Please make sure you are on time to drop your students off at lunch. We are having several arrive late, sometimes by more than 5 minutes, which only gives students a few minutes to eat in some cases.
Reminders
- Make sure you fill out a substitute evaluation form and give to Kaylie. The forms are in the office. This helps us communicate with Kelly Services.
- When you have 100% attendance add a letter to the word CHARGERS. When you have earned the whole word, give your class a reward and let the office know so we can announce that you earned the reward.
Restrooms
- Am I teaching right now? If so, they need to wait so they don't miss instruction and you can supervise them going to the restroom.
- Can I monitor them going right now? Remember, it's REQUIRED for you to stand at your door and monitor them getting there and back. If you can't, then it's not a good time.
- Did we just go OR are we getting ready to go? If you just went, having a conversation about why they didn't use that time wisely is a good idea. If you're getting ready to go, have them wait.
- Is this an emergency? Ask them if it's an emergency. If it's not an actual emergency, they should wait.
- Are they going a large amount of times during the day? At times, this is due to task avoidance. Talk with them about the amount of times they are going and consider tracking this in your room. Maybe you need to make parent contact about concerns with the frequency of use.
It's always a good idea to have some kind of sign out system for the restroom. This lets us pinpoint who might be making the messes so we can address it and get it stopped. It also lets you see if you have a student that is avoiding things and using the restroom several times a day.
Also, please remember to send a student in the restroom at the beginning and end of your class restroom break to report messes. Let us know if it's something that you are getting reports on daily so we can address concerns.
