Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Last week, students from HG and Mrs. Braudaway attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center. This is the first time HG students have been chosen to attend! They participated in numerous leadership activities, listened to several keynote speakers, and attended a mini Space Camp. Students were chosen from across the state of Alabama and sponsored by their local Rotary Clubs. Our local Downtown Huntsville and Greater Huntsville Rotary Clubs chose and sponsored us! Students who attended were: Carly Brady, Ireland Braudaway, Landon Britton, Austin Corum, Sarah Gentry, Malachi Olszewski, Joya Peters, Anna Peyton, Morgan Rock and Noah Ross.

HG Construction Academy

The HG Construction Academy is taking "real life experience" to another level! Featured here are HG students building benches for the theater department! Not only are they providing a community service, but they are helping out the team!

Planning Ahead

Congratulations to Preston Stafford and Aaron Atkins on their accomplishments. Preston Stafford, #7 receiver for Hazel Green, is committing to Alabama A&M University. Stafford had 45 receptions, 615 receiving yards, 900 all-purpose yards, 9 touchdowns, All-Region, Principal's Advisory Committee, and Player of the Week. Aaron Atkinson, #9 linebacker for Hazel Green, is committing to Samford University. Atkinson completed 58 tackles, had 15 assists, 2 sacks, and 7 tackles for loss!

HG Cafeteria Earns Perfect Score

100 percent may have a new meaning around HG! The HG Cafeteria really does make it "Lunch Lady Land" with their perfect score from the Health Department!

There is a Junior Optimist Club Meeting after school today in Mrs. Thompson's room.

NTHS

New NTHS members must have their fees paid today in order to be inducted. NTHS Inductions are tomorrow, February 4th, at 7:30 AM in the library. All members must attend to maintain membership. New members need to be in the library at 7:15 AM for the lineup. NTHS will have a general meeting February 9th before and after school. All members need to attend.

Outdoor Track & Field

Outdoor Track and Field Tryouts will be held February 3rd-4th at 3:50 PM on the soccer field. You must have an updated and must be present to participate in the outdoor season.

Student Council

Student Council yearbook pictures will be taken Thursday, February 4th, at 8:10 AM in the center stairwell.

New Scholarship Program for Huntsville Students

Endo International PLC today announced that it has funded the creation the Qualitest Scholarship Program, a $50,000 annual education initiative that will award 10 Huntsville Area students or dependents of Par Pharmaceutical employees with a tuition award of $5,000 per student. Beginning Monday, February 1st, 2016, Endo welcomes eligible students to apply for one of 10 available scholarships, which will be awarded in May 2016. The deadline for application submissions is Friday, March 4th, 2016 at 11:59 PM. National School Counselor's Week

Happy National School Counselor’s Week! Get ready for the 4th Annual National School Counseling Week Poster & Essay Contest! The state-level 1st place winner for 12th grade will receive a $1000 scholarship for post-secondary endeavors, sponsored by Alabama College and Career Guide (www.alccg.com). Enrollment in a post-secondary institution at the time of scholarship award is required. The winner will be contacted for more information. Huntsville Alumni Chapter Kappa Scholarship Foundation 2016 Scholarship Applications

Attached are three scholarship applications from the Huntsville Alumni Chapter Kappa Scholarship Foundation: 2016 Diamond Book, 2016 Floyd Hughes Memorial, 2016 Dream Scholarship. Federation Members Eligible for $1,000 College Scholarship

Alabama Farmers Federation members can now apply online for a $1,000 college scholarship funded by the Alfa Foundation. Applications are due April 1. The scholarships will be awarded to 100 students attending Alabama colleges, universities or technical schools and may be used for tuition, fees, books or supplies required for coursework. Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.


Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Black Box Theatre. All students are welcome to attend.

PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.


Recycle:
Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag, just stop by the main office to pick one up.
