Community Challenge
Commit to Be Fit is challenging the entire Rapp community to take our 150 Challenge! It is recommended that adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. Additionally, adults should participate in 2 muscle-strengthening activities weekly.
Moderate-intensity aerobic activity includes anything that gets your heart beating faster. Examples may include walking, dancing, biking, gardening, swimming, aerobics, sports, backyard games, etc.
Muscle-strengthening activities are activities that make your muscles work harder than usual. This may include climbing stairs, heavy gardening (digging and shoveling), weight lifting, bodyweight exercises (squats, push-ups, planks, water aerobics, etc.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE- Starting September 4th, complete a minimum of 150 minutes per week for 4 weeks (September 4th – October 1st). The 150 minutes should include at least 2 muscle-strengthening activities. For example, climbing stairs counts towards your total minutes and is considered a muscle-strengthening activity.

Immunity Boosters
The back to school season brings new opportunities, beginnings and, unfortunately, those yucky germs. Here are a few tips to help yourself and family against common colds and other susceptible illnesses:
HYDRATE! Water is essential to a healthy diet and plays a huge role in keeping our immune system strong.
Eat foods that are high in antioxidants and vitamin C. Some of these foods include oranges, strawberries, blueberries and tomatoes.
Practice good sleeping habits. Not getting enough sleep makes your body more susceptible to illness.
Take vitamins! Zinc, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D all aid in preventing illness and shortening their stay in your immune system.
Wash your hands frequently. Enough said!
Find ways to control and manage your stress. When we feel run down, most likely our immune system is, too.
Safety Measures to Prevent Food Borne Illnesses
Although summer hasn’t officially ended just yet, many of us may be celebrating the unofficial end of summer in the next couple weeks. As grilling and cookouts are a favorite pastime, be sure to remain attentive to safety measures to prevent a food borne illness. Make sure your food has been properly prepared and stored. The U.S Food and Drug Administration recommends food not be left out more than an hour when outdoor temperatures are above 90° F. Never leave food sitting out more than two hours anytime. If a food requires refrigeration, place it in a cooler that will hold the temperature at a cool 40° F. So don’t let a pleasant celebration turn into an unpleasant nine alarm trip to the restroom, or worse, a visit to the ER! Cover those dishes and cook the meats thoroughly. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Mozzarella, Basil, & Zucchini Frittata
