The World of Westwood Wolves
Unleashing the Power of Our Pack- #PackPower!
August 14, 2022
From the principal's office...
We are so excited to start another awesome year full of #PackPower!
Parents are welcome to come in and drop kids off Monday morning; if you want to walk them in, I would highly suggest walking to school or parking in the side lot. Some parents will want to use the car rider line Monday morning, so we don't want to block it.
Beginning Tuesday, all our Wolves should enter the building by themselves either after walking or being dropped off in the car rider line.
Speaking of the car rider line...here's how it works. All cars should pull forward as much as possible; we unload 8 cars at a time (2 rows of 4 cars) in front of the crosswalk. As soon as all students have safely exited the first 8 vehicles, we pull the next 8 up and unload those.
It really helps if students are ready to unbuckle their own seat belts/car seat buckles and exit cars quickly with backpacks. It holds up the line when parents have to get out of cars.
We will also be enforcing the new system the city put in place last spring where the exit of the car rider line will be right turn only on to McRay. This will make the line be able to keep moving and not get backed up at the exit. Luckily, there are many side streets to make a loop around if you need to go toward the east.
Change can be challenging, but we will work through new dismissal times. Arrival will still be between 7:20-7:45 (K-2 car riders in the front, 3-5 on the east side between the building and the gym). Dismissal will now be at 3:10 for car riders on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Every Wednesday, car riders will dismiss at 1:50. We sent home forms last spring asking if you planned to have your child be a car rider, walker, or go to the afterschool program (ASP). If you plan to use ASP for all or part of the week (or just Wednesdays), be sure you've registered with them. Here's a link to enrollment information for ASP.
We appreciate in advance your patience the first week as the car rider line always takes a bit to really get moving. It takes the kids a few days to get used to watching/listening for their names and coming out quickly. It will speed up!
See you Monday-
Mrs. Crumby
How do I receive information from Westwood?
PHONE CALLS: We also send out phone calls through an automated system; you will receive these calls if your phone number is correct in Registration Gateway. If your number changes, you can update the information in Registration Gateway, or call the office to update.
SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE: The weekly parent update and other announcements/stories are also posted on our school's Facebook page and website. We are working on activating our school's Instagram account also- we'll let you know when that's up and running.
PAPER NOTES: We also send out paper notes at times; most of these will be sent in folders that come home every Tuesday. Every now and then, we need to send information on other days, so it's a great practice to check the backpacks each afternoon/evening.
We don't want you to miss any information, so we put things out in lots of ways!
Upcoming Dates/Events:
Aug. 15- First day of school- so excited to see our Wolves!
