Classroom Happenings
ELA: Ms. Kraushaar
This week, students started reading Refugee by Alan Gratz (click here to read a brief summary). In this first unit, we are laying the foundation for the year by studying our three main characters in depth and showing our thinking through writing. Starting September 3rd, students will be asked to read and finish two choice books during the month of September. If you’re interested in buying a book to build our classroom library, please click here to see our Amazon wishlist!
Science: Mrs. Tobey
This week, we completed our paper airplane engineering design project. Students worked individually and then on a team to design a paper airplane that would fly the farthest. Today, they competed against each other in a bracket style competition!
Social Studies: Mr. Cahn
We are solidly in our Foundations Unit, our first short unit of the year that focuses on the tools of social science inquiry. In particular, a primary focus this week has been on Archaeology's role in helping us understand the past. We are ending this week with an Iceman Mystery, and we'll pick back up with that next week. We will likely have a one-question summative assessment before Labor Day weekend.
