Staff and students can track how many paws we have by looking at the bulletin board in the waiting area. As a reminder, the yellow paws are from support staff (Julie, Dr. Currey, Allison, Irene, custodians, and office staff); red paws are for teachers, and blue paws are from custodians.

How to Use at Gerner
Example:
Plan - By the end of the 2014-2015 school, 100% of Rm 103b students will identify 8 shapes and 10 colors, as measured by Data Notebook assessments.
Do - The teacher will provide small group instruction for students receiving a "not yet" or meets" during center time facilitated play 2 days a week for 15 minutes on shape and color recognition.
The teacher will facilitate specific color and shape sorting activities in the math center available for center time facilitated play and introduce the materials and how to use them in large group instruction. Teacher will include these activities in a flow chart for center time activities to visually post on the SMART board during center time.
The student will play with specific toys/manipulatives during center time to include sorting by shapes and color 2 days a week in their center time rotation. The student will set a goal for increasing number of shapes and colors increased by the end of the quarter. Student will track progress in data notebook.
Study - Will then review the data based on next quarter results from Early Childhood Report Cards
Act - Will then review the plan and make potential changes
*More information will be presented on PDSA at individual staff meetings. A PDSA will be required for all classrooms for one specific area (either classroom goals, use of an instructional strategy, etc.) by January 5, 2015.
Parent Night Out - PTA - Friday, December 5th from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
The PTA (parents and staff) is providing a Parent's Night Out as a FUNDRAISER to purchase SMART boards for Room 111 and Room 188 (new ECSE room) this school year. This is a fun way for families to enjoy shopping while their students enjoy a Frozen themed night of fun in a safe, caring environment - their favorite place, Gerner!!
Students will have Hyvee pizza for dinner, then participate in crafts and games before watching Frozen on the big screen in the lower level MPR. Parents will pay $25.00 per child and $10 for each additional child.
Our goal is to have 1 or 2 ECSE classrooms available for students who need modified activities and a more sensory friendly environment.
Sign up to volunteer now (you can also volunteer in 2 hour shifts)! Please indicate the hours you are available to work.
Thanks for always putting families first at Gerner!

I just have to brag on two of my rooms. Following the lead of her kiddos, Ms. Ready observed where their interests in the dramatic play area were centered, and they kept focusing on cakes and dessert. They decided to make a birthday-themed center, and even planned a birthday party for their class. They drew/wrote invitations, which the students then delivered to friends and people they met in the hallway. They decorated their room and made cake/snacks. Ms. Thomas’ class, who was invited to integrate with them, went through the process of RSVPing by phone, picking out a present, deciding how to make it look exciting, and giving directions to Ms. Thomas about wrapping it. Together, the classes made birthday crowns and enjoyed their treats, sang songs, and celebrated. It was a really awesome activity for language-enrichment, based on an experience, to make it tangible and memorable. (And the cake pops were fabulous! :) )
