Supervolcano
How supervolcanoes can end the world
An eruption of a super volcano could be the end of all humanity.
Eruption
When a supervolcano erupts it releases tons of boiling magma into the sky. The Lava itself then turns into the ash which can cause layers of ash to be more than 20 meters thick.
Ash
Volcanic ash is made up of tiny pieces of rock which will destroy cars and homes. If the ash is inhaled lungs a type of concrete will in your lungs form and it will drown you.
Formation
A supervolcano is formed when extreme pressure builds under the earth's surface and then is released upward.
Yellowstone
There is a supervolcano located under Yellowstone National Park. Here is an estimation of the damage it would cause. The supervolcano under Yellowstone erupts, on average, once every 600,000 years, but the last time it erupted was around 620,000 years ago. Realistically, it could go off at anytime.
Why should we be worried?
When the ash falls, it will basically destroy everything in its path, there is very little hope for survival.
How can we survive?
We would need to make underground colonies and the colonies would have to be self sufficient because we would need to use them for centuries.
Where would we get our food?
We would need to make artificial light to try and grow plants underground.
Aftermath
If you venture out in search of food, the plants and animals, if there were any alive, would be toxic.
