Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of October 23rd
Highlights From Last Week....
In Reader's Workshop, we continued to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We are starting to get the hang of this skill! This is where the letter sound knowledge will help immensely! We will continue to practice our other strategies as well: looking at the picture while we read, trading out books, practicing turning and talking.
In Writer's Workshop, we are still working on drawing stories of a small moment in our lives. This is a true story that happened in their lives. We have been working on writing with partners and across the pages. This week we learned how to add action and speech bubbles to our work. We are really moving along. The kids LOVE Writer's Workshop!
In Math, we worked on decomposing numbers with totals up to 10. We wrote numerals 1-10 in order. We learned how to write the numbers and use the numeral to represent a quantity. We also solved word problems by acting them out.
In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "and" and "it", please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week were "s" and "d".
In Social Studies, we continued with our community helpers unit. We had a visit from the Athol Fire/Police Department to talk about fire safety. Please make sure that you change the batteries in your smoke detectors at home!
