Veterans' Day Celebration and Brunch - THIS WEEK!
This year is our 2nd annual Veterans' Day Celebration and Brunch! We started this last year, and it was a huge hit for our students and families. Flyers have been sent home. We are posting on the webpage and social media. Students can attend ONLY if they bring a veteran. We will have special music, a guest speaker (Officer Medlin), and breakfast provided by our PTSO. It's a special time for our families to honor those who have served our country. Please talk it up with your students! The celebration is Thursday, November 8th at 9:30am.
Academic Reflection Sheet - Reminder - MONDAY
Homeroom teachers: This sheet needs to be given out in HOMEROOM with a brief explanation from the homeroom teacher telling students they must take this sheet to their reading and math classes AND bring it back to homeroom at the end of the day.
Reading and Math teachers: Please take time for students to COMPLETE this reflection sheet in your classroom on Monday. Talk to them about the importance of being aware of their academic performance and setting goals for the 2nd quarter. Remind students they must take it back to homeroom at the end of the day to turn in to their homeroom teachers.
Homeroom teachers at the end of the day: Have a few students share their goals. Collect all sheets and put them in a safe spot. We ask that you take out this sheet every Friday beginning November 16th and have students check in on their goals; you take a few minutes to talk to some individual students about their goals to hold them accountable.
If you have any questions, please let any admin know.

From the ESL Department
We know you have a class full of diverse learners. We know your time is short. That’s why our district purchased Ellevation, an online resource for instructional strategies and classroom activities that you can use in any lesson plan to help all of your students, and especially your ELs. Click on the link to review how to access the activities available to you. If you have any questions, please talk to Karen Benson for more information. Thank you!
Staff Handbook Tip of the Week - Hall Passes
Occasions do arise when a student needs to leave the classroom. However, they must have a proper hall pass at all times. Teachers must sign the hall pass with date, time and destination. Do not send out more than one student at a time. No student should be in the hall without his/her hall pass in hand. Reference the 15 Minute Rule in the instructional time section.
Digital Learning Credits: Important for Licensure
For those of you who are looking for ways to earn Digital Learning Credits, Ms. Redmond will be offering monthly tech sessions for a total of 8 hours, which is .8 CEUs. This started with the Flipgrid session a few weeks ago, and is continuing with the App Smash session this coming Friday. She will be releasing the full calendar ASAP. Also, there will be a Canvas course January-June that teachers can complete in 6 hours and .6 CEUs. Finally, there are many FREE DLC options in NCEES Professional Development that you can find in PowerSchool. If you have any questions about your licensure, please ask Paige Gentry in HR. DLC specific questions can be directed to Ms. Redmond.

Technology Tips and Reminders
- Work orders for ANYTHING PowerSchool, email issues, phones, computers. This is a district requirement.
- If there's a student that needs something printed, they should share with the teacher digitally and teachers can print to the Toshiba if needed.
- There are still a few questions about students getting access to PowerSchool. Please see the email dated 10/31 from Ms. Redmond entitled "Students in PowerSchool." Students should not be sent to Wallace or Redmond to fix. This is teacher managed.
- When you are printing from your computer, please remember that 15 copies or less should be sent to the Toshiba. We are seeing that many folks are printing all classroom copies to the Toshiba. This is very expensive when this money can be utilized for other things for our school. Make copies for your classes on the Rizzograph please! Ask any CMS veteran about this if needed.
- Please remember to lock your room each time you leave so that the chrome carts are protected. Also, please make sure you're cutting off projectors when out of the room. Bulbs range from $100-$200 and should last 2-3 years. If they are left on when you're out of the room, this decreases their life expectancy.
