Take Home Backpacks
Inside each backpack you will find a book to read with your child, an accompanying stuff animal, a journal to write about your adventures and a box filled with writing tools.
My class was so excited to meet them and can not wait for their turn to take them home.
I know you will take special care of them so each child will have an opportunity to take them home.
We will read about their adventures after they return them the next day to class.

Reading Tips
When reading a book, ask the students to think about the characters and how they can connect or relate to a specific character’s emotions.
If you are reading a non-fiction or informational book, have the student retell you important facts from the book.
After reading, ask the student to identify the author’s purpose for writing that text. Was it to entertain them? Was it to inform them? Was it to persuade them?

Wylie ISD 2017-18 Calendar Release
If you have not seen the updated calendar for next year, it is posted on the district website. There is a survey that you can give feedback regarding changes you would like to see.
For the most part, it is similar to this year's. Some changes that have occurred include:
- School will start August 21, the third Monday of August, opposed to the fourth Monday. The district applied for a waiver to do this.
- Christmas Break starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday, making the break for staff 13 days, opposed to the typical 16 days.
- They added a teacher work day following Christmas Break.
- Spring Break is now aligned with Dallas County and Collin County community colleges. So it is now the 2nd week of March.
