Bubble Gum Days - January 31 - February 9

During bubble gum days students are invited to chew bubble gum during their media resource time. Bubble gum will be provided to students and we will read and play games related to Bubble Gum. This celebration was originally designed as a library or school fundraiser. We will collect quarters during media resource and use the proceeds to purchase new Bubble Gum books for the media center. Currently our collection is small and the best part of bubble gum days are the stories we read. Please send in a quarter with your child on their next media resource day starting January 31 with Resource Day D.

Students can also access Bubble Gum Books from home on MackinVia by clicking this link Bubble Gum Books. If you would like to try out some fun Bubble Gum Activities click here.

Time for Reading Magazines

Our Literacy week events were a big hit with our students. There were lots of magazines read and purchased. The reading buddies dangled with delight as students had fun learning about periodicals and the multiple genres that are provided in magazines. The library will be adding several new subscriptions to the collection. Some of the new favorites are Bake It Up, Lego Club, Military Kids and Ladybug. It is not too late to participate by purchasing a magazine. Use the link below and our school will benefit from your order for the rest of the school year. More information on the benefits of reading magazines with students can be found at Teaching with Magazines. Thanks again for your support!

4th Annual Pirate Cove Book Swap - Starts during Read Across America Week

The PES Pirate Cove will be having our 4th Annual Seusstastic Book Swap during “Read Across America Week.” Start gathering your gently used children's books for the book exchange. We will begin collecting books on February 22 in the media center. Students will start swapping during their media resource classes February 27 through March 7. Give a book and get a book or donate more! Students who donate more than 3 books will have the opportunity to select additional books at the end of the swap. This event is just in time for Spring Break reading.

Audrey is our student volunteer in the media center. She helps each morning getting things ready for students to use our library. You might see her checking in books or getting out library cards in the morning. She also gets the computers set up each day with Destiny our Library Search Catalog. Some days she helps process new books and puts the books back on the shelves. We love having such a sweet helpful young lady join us each day!

Birthday Book Club

The Palencia Elementary School Media Center’s Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to commemorate your child’s birthday. Your participation not only enriches the library collection but allows you and your child to be personally involved in its growth.

To take part in the Birthday Book Club donate one new undamaged hardback book. This book should be a book that your child enjoys and one that we don’t have in the media center already. You can choose a new book at the book store or a new book from the Book Fair. A quick check of our library catalog (Destiny) will tell you if we already have the book. If you would prefer, you may make a monetary donation of $15 and your child can choose from recently acquired books that are waiting to be put on the shelves. For more information, contact the media center.
