  3. DIVAS With Promise and Men of Valor are mentoring programs through Caroline’s Promise. DIVAS With Promise’s primary focus is to empower young ladies with the skills needed for success in the current year and beyond.   4. The Career Coach, along with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, will be hosting an after school program focusing on your future job success. Winter Sports Tryouts

Tryouts for Boys & Girls Basketball, Indoor Track, Swim, and Wrestling will begin on Monday, Nov. 11. Varsity boys basketball will practice 3:00-5:15 pm. JV boys will practice 5:15-7:00 pm. All basketball tryouts are at CHS. Girls basketball tryouts will begin Monday November 11 with both JV and Varsity trying out together from 3:00-5:20 at the high school. After tryouts are over and teams are made, JV will practice from 3:00-5:15 and Varsity will practice from 5:30-7:30.Swim and Wrestling should stay after school and will shuttle to the YMCA for practice. Please email Coach Hale (bhale@ccps.us) for swim specifics and Coach Swanton (sswanton@ccps.us) for wrestling details. Track will be 3:00-5:15 pm at the stadium. You must have a completed and valid VHSL Physical in order to try out for a team. Please make arrangements to have your ride pick you up at 5:30 pm. Activity buses will be running Monday-Thursday during the Winter sports season and will leave at 5:30 pm each day from CHS.

Congratulations to the following students who won the 2019 Hanover- Caroline Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) soil poster contest for their grade level and will advance to the Virginia Association of SWCD state competition. The theme was "Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper"

Career Center Information from Ms. Hummer

  1. The Career Center salutes all past, present, and future Army, Navy, Airforce, Marine, and Coast Guard men and women. Thank you for your service. Interested in a military career? Please visit https://www.todaysmilitary.com/ to learn more.

  2. November is National Career Development Month. The Career Coach celebrated this month with a trip to Luck Stone to learn about workplace readiness skills and career pathways of the organization. The Career Coach will also be having a Career Cafe with a Surveyor from Virginia Association of Surveyors on November 14 with Mr. BLack’s class. Please check out Get My Future to learn about careers, apprenticeships, applying for college, and finding jobs.

  3. November 11-15 is National Apprenticeship Week. The Career Coach will be in all 3 lunch periods on November 12th to showcase various apprenticeship opportunities including Germanna Apprenticeships. Stop by to see her. Virginia College Application Week

Virginia College Application Week: Members of the Class of 2020 from across the Commonwealth of Virginia will be applying to colleges during the week of November 18-22, 2019. We hope you join them! Remember that enrollment at a college begins with just one step: the completion of an application.


Here at CHS, we will host the following events:

  • Monday, November 18: College Application Drive: Seniors- are you still working on your college applications? Do you need to start the process? Come see Mrs. Hummer and Ms. Taylor on Monday of VCAW to get started. Ms. Taylor can help students with four-year applications while Mrs. Hummer can assist with Germanna and other community colleges.   • Tuesday, November 19: Longwood On-Site Admissions: On-site admissions is an excellent way to learn an admissions decision quickly. Longwood's admissions counselor will visit CHS to review transcripts and test scores of those who would like to participate. At the end of the visit, students will learn their admissions status.   • Wednesday, November 20: FAFSA Workshop: Submitting your college applications is only part of the process. In order to obtain financial aid, you must submit your FAFSA. Come to our workshop between 4 and 7 PM on Wednesday to get yours done. Location to be announced.

  • Thursday, November 21: College Spirit Day: Wear gear from your favorite college! There will be a gift card drawing during lunches for students who participate. All grades are invited to participate!
