Rockbrook Reminder

Weekly Updates for November 13th, 2020

School Schedule for the Week Ahead

Next week we again have a 5-day school week. We are also contacting families regarding the upcoming switch to yellow status following Thanksgiving. In a few cases we may be in touch to request if you are able to attend a day other than the alphabetical listing. This is to try and balance the numbers attending each day when a class has higher numbers in one group or the other. We know this may not always be possible, and appreciate your flexibility when it is.

Hy-Vee Receipts are Now TAGG - Together a Greater Good!

You may have seen our advertisements for TAGG or Together a Greater Good. We wanted to make you aware that Hy-Vee has now partnered with TAGG and discontinued their HyVee Receipts program which many families previously participated in to support our school. To use TAGG, simply download the app, snap a photo of the receipt, and HyVee as well as lots of other local businesses will donate a percentage of your purchase to our school!

See the video below for a quick 1 minute explanation of how.

Veterans Day

Each year our school takes time to recognize the sacrifice of our Veterans and those Actively Serving. We thank you for all you have done to serve our country and our community.

Most years our school hosts a breakfast to bring our families together and show our appreciation. Due to the current pandemic we couldn’t do so in the same way this year. We still want you to know how important you are and how much we appreciate you and all you have done. Since we weren’t able to meet in large groups, we wrote letters to local Veterans, and our Scouts helped to raise the flag and share readings to show our respect for all you have given our country.

Book Fair Coming, Movie Night Canceled

While you may have seen our recent message regarding our movie night being canceled, we are still making plans to host our Fall Book Fair next week. Students will have the opportunity to purchase books at school on November 17th and 18th. Keep an eye out for our Book Fair Special Edition Newsletter as we finalize plans for possible evening purchasing. Flyers should have come home this week, so please take time to preview these with your child and plan for possible purchases. Having extra books around will be especially important as we move into our Yellow Status.

Dropping Off Your Child? Please Bring Them In & Sign Them In

When dropping offer your child after 8:30 a.m., parents must walk their child in and check them in at the office. This includes if your are returning your child from a doctor's appointment. Checking your child in is important to ensure the safety of all students arriving at our school.

Who Ya Gonna Call?

When calling to make arrangements for your child it’s important that the right people get the right message. If calling to inform us of decisions that will impact your child’s school day (8:30-3:30) please call our main office at 402-390-6475. If you are calling to make changes to before and after care, it is also important to contact the Club66 Staff at 402-390-8208. Finally, it’s always appreciated if you email your child’s teacher if you will be picking them up during the day as this helps them prepare any work your child may need. Please make sure if doing so to also call the main office or email our Administrative Assistant Ms. Veldhuis at veldhuis.courtney@westside66.net.

Please remember to call the school office at 390-6475 before 9:00 a.m. if:

  • Your child will be absent from school for any reason.
  • Your child will be late for school (if your child will eat a school lunch, please request at the time of your call).

Often times parents will tell the teacher when their children are going to be gone, but sometimes the teacher is gone as well. The office really needs to know. We would appreciate your help with this anytime you know your child will be out of school.

Also, please let the office know if you are going to be out of town and someone else will be taking care of your children. In the case of an emergency, we want to reach someone as soon as possible.

Students and Cell Phones / Smart Devices

We know that staying connected to your child is an important safety feature for many families. While in school we ask that students keep all cell phones and smart devices stowed in their backpacks. This helps prevent distraction from learning.

Medication at School

For you child’s safety and for the safety of others, all medication, even cough’s drops, must be kept locked in the health office, it must be in the original package. All medication, including cough drops, needs to be accompanied by a medication form signed by the parent or guardian, all prescription medication forms must be signed by the doctor. Whenever possible, medication should be administered at home.
