A Note of Gratitude for HRES

During the month of November, Hickory Ridge Elementary teachers and students are reflecting on what we are grateful for in class. We would love to hear from our valued families about what you are grateful for here at Hickory Ridge Elementary School. Please take a brief moment to express your gratitude to our amazing staff. Your words of appreciation make a great impact on the climate and culture of our school. Thank you!

iReady Turkey Challenge

Our HRES Cowboys have been working hard this month to meet their goals for our November iReady Turkey Challenge! Mathematicians from across our school are earning turkey feathers for working minutes and passed lessons in iReady. Each grade level has determined a goal to reach with special incentives along the way! This fun and challenging month is sure to bring lots of growth and lots of fun! Don't forget to ask your student what their classroom goal is!

EBOB members will compete against other Cabarrus County Schools in late February on their knowledge of setting, plot, and characters from 15 preselected books. Last year our EBOB team came in 3rd place in the county!

5th Grade Book Clubs - Mrs. Shulman, Media Coordinator

Fifth graders have the opportunity to join a book club that meets once a month after school. The first book the club will be reading is Bound for Home by Meika Hashimoto. Students will discuss the book and complete an activity based on their reading. Each month a new book will be selected and students will have the opportunity to join.

Cowboys Demonstrate STAR Values!

HRES Cowboys are

  • Safe
  • Use Teamwork
  • Act Responsibly
  • and...Show Respect!

By following our STAR values, students earn Class Stars and individual Cowboy Points.

  • Class Stars-once classes earn 25 stars, they celebrate by doing a preferred activity voted on by the class.
  • Cowboy Points-Students work to earn at least 100 Cowboy Points each quarter to earn their way to the PBIS Celebration.

Celebrations

We love to celebrate our students and the great work they are doing! We celebrate the following ways:

  • Principal's Awards-These are monthly awards that recognize one student from each classroom for exhibiting exemplary character in a specific area. We have had two lunches so far this year and have enjoyed celebrating our fabulous students!
  • Bus Riders of the Month- These awards are given to a rider on each bus, each month, that shows STAR values on the bus.
  • Block Parties- These celebrations happen mid quarter. This is a way to celebrate students with STAR behaviors the first part of the quarter and encourage all students to continue working toward STAR behaviors the second half of the quarter.
  • PBIS Quarterly Celebrations-These are our big celebrations that happen at the end of each quarter. Students that earned 100 Cowboy Points and show positive STAR behavior attend this exciting event. Our first quarter celebration was a Carnival themed event and we had a great time! We look forward to the second quarter celebration that will be a Decades Dance!

Lunch Visitors

We are excited to welcome parents back into the building to visit during lunch. We began welcoming visitors back in the building in October to have lunch with your children. This year we will be utilizing a weekly visitor rotation to allow for enough room for students and visitors. The rotation also helps us maintain our safety procedures. If you plan to visit your child, you will need to sign in at the office. Due to limited seating you may only visit during your child’s assigned lunch time. At the assigned lunch time, we ask that you meet your child in the cafeteria. Parents are asked to take only their child to the designated area for lunch (high top tables In the back of the cafeteria or high top counter on the side of the cafeteria. When lunch is over, we ask that you say goodbye in the cafeteria and head directly to the office to sign out. We ask that you do not head to your child's classroom. The students have a very busy day and instruction will begin as soon as they return. Again, this helps us maintain our safety procedures. If you plan to bring lunch for your child, we ask that you refrain from bringing fast food. Please see the schedule below for your lunch visit day.

Lunch Rotation Based On The First Letter of Your Child's Last Name
Week One: Last Names A-G
Week Two: Last Names H-N
Week Three: Last Names O-S
Week Four: Last Names T-Z
