Manhattan High School Update
October 2022
A Note from Mrs. Howells
Hello MHS students & families,
As our school year moves forward, I am continually amazed at the greatness of our teachers, students, and staff. The teamwork, work ethic and drive I see on a daily basis is commendable and I am so glad to be a part of this Tiger family. From academics to athletics to all of our extracurricular activities, our students truly go above and beyond to achieve success in all things.
With homecoming week, please remember that the events and festivities are a great opportunity to show the pride we share as Tigers and to celebrate being part of Manhattan Schools and the Manhattan community. It's a time to come together and support our students as they approach the end of their fall seasons. Best of luck to our Cross Country, Fall Cheer, Volleyball, and Football teams in these last weeks of competitions!
I also want to give a huge shoutout to all of the groups and individuals who make our home events run smoothly. Without the help of the gate keepers, announcers, clock workers, chain crew, line judges, coaches, and many others, these events would not be possible. Our band, National Anthem singers, and student section are also key pieces to making these events so memorable. All of the groups that have stepped up to run the concessions stand at our home events have done a wonderful job and the time put into running these is appreciated. Our teams and individuals who help to clean up after events have also been a tremendous help to our custodial staff, so thank you as well!
A few important dates to note:
- October 20-21 are Teacher In-Service days, so we have no school.
- October 28 marks the end of first quarter. Please be sure students are at school school as much as possible and staying on top of their classwork. I encourage students and parents/guardians to be checking Infinite Campus regularly and communicating early with teachers if necessary.
If you or your student(s) have questions or need help with anything school related, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are all here to see our students succeed and want to support them to the best of our abilities! We have exceptional individuals in our High School both at the student and staff levels. Thanks for the support and encouragement you bring to the MHS community!
Go Tigers!
Working Wednesdays
Working Wednesday will provide students with the opportunity to meet and learn from various professionals in the community. Each Working Wednesday, a professional from the community will come to MHS to give a presentation or workshop designed to educate students about their profession. The presentations will be delivered in the Activities Room during lunch. Space will be limited so students must sign-up ahead of time for this lunch & learn style experience (sign-up sheet will be posted in each grade level google classroom).
The hope is that in the same way we bring in college admissions representatives to talk with juniors & seniors, Working Wednesday will offer students more information about all post-secondary options - both with and without college.
If you think you or anyone you know in the community would be a good fit as a presenter, please let Mr. Render (crender@mhstigers.org) know. Right now we have 3 scheduled, 5 others confirmed, and approximately 8 additional spots to fill!
THANK YOU MANHATTAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION!!
The Manhattan Education Foundation has graciously awarded a grant to our very own, Mr. Pat Lynch! The grant will go towards purchasing additional devices for our Creative Digital Arts class.
Your generosity and support of our students is remarkable, and we appreciate it very much!
HOMECOMING!
Homecoming Parade!
The homecoming parade will be on Friday, October 7 at 10:15 AM. Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend! We would love to see the streets lined to celebrate our great school and all of our students.
