The Candling
The Candling
On Friday, April 19, our first graders experienced the candling of the chicken eggs. In order to do this, we put a piece of cardboard with a small hole on top of an overhead projector. When we lit it, the only light we saw was through the hole. We placed each egg on the lighted hole and we were able to see if there was a chick in the egg or not.
Store bought egg
When it looks like this, that means there is no chick inside. We can see the light throughout the egg.
20 of these!
When the light does not shine through the egg, it's because there is a chick inside blocking it.
Only 2 of these.
Only two eggs did not have chicks inside. We had to dispose of them or else they could explode in the incubator.
Two more days left!
Be on the lookout for more 1st grade news about our chicks. We are anxiously waiting for them to hatch! The big day is Wednesday April 24th!! Yes, it's a STAAR day, but you can still come see...
