LVMS Newsletter
Excellence In All We Do - Back To School Edition
Welcome Back!
I wanted to send this short newsletter to answer questions about the new year - more detailed information will come out closer to the beginning of the year - but this will help.
Kim Bentley - Assistant Principal
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal. This will be my 5th year here at Lago Vista Middle School and my 16th year in Education.
Over the past 16 years I have held many roles both as a classroom teacher and within the Special Education department. These experiences have helped shape me as an educator, and they have given me a deep respect for all of the hard work that goes into each role on campus. Lago Vista Middle school has an amazing team of educators and support staff that I'm privileged to get to continue to work with.
Chris Schlicke - History
And yes...it was an actual news story when he left Veribest! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5hZSrlZjX4
Andrea Patton-Reedy - Functional Academics
My name is Andrea Reedy and I will be the new Academic/Life Skills Teacher at LVMS. I have 17 years of experience working with our very special friends who need lots of hands-on learning and individualized attention in a small group setting. I enjoy finding new ways to engage my students and make learning meaningful and purposeful. My room motto is...the more laughter we have together, then stronger relationships will follow :)
I am excited to begin this new chapter of my life with the Vikings! I look forward to meeting you all, helping our students to bloom and grow stronger, together.
Zach Hawthorne - PE/6th Speech
I was an IA in Leander last year before joining LVHS as the ISS/DAEP teacher as well as Assistant Varsity Baseball coach. Before going to education, I used to organize youth sports with i9 Sports in Cedar Park. I enjoy baseball, golf and eating any good food!
I'll be teaching PE, Speech and Mythbusters.
Dan Babyak - Math
I’m ecstatic to be joining the Viking family!
After graduating from LVHS in 2017, I studied Corporate Communication Science with a concentration in finance at the University of Texas. I started my educational career in tandem with my last semester of college (online) last August. I was a special education aide at Florence Middle School until I graduated class of 2020.5(? Winter 2020? Ah whatever, who’s counting...) and became certified in math and science 4-8, and composite science 7-12. I taught Integrated Physics and Chemistry at Florence Highschool for the Spring 2021 semester.
As well as teaching I have a passion for coaching. While at UT, I was on the football team’s practice squad my freshman year. This was when it clicked for me that I wanted to become a
teacher and coach. I knew that I wanted to return to Lago and work with the school district that gave me so much. I will be teaching 7th & 8th-grade math, and am thrilled to be a part of this awesome team.
Aaron Martin - Tech
Hey Lago Vista Vikings!!!!
I am extremely pleased to be able to join the middle school campus this year! My name is Aaron Martin ( Yes y’all, Mrs. Martin is my better half!). I will be teaching applications as well as theater! I am a huge nerd and very proud of it, I love Star Trek, Pokémon, any video games, and I love my jeep! I look forward to building relationships and achieving our high goals!
Meet The Teacher Night
We are looking forward to meeting our students on Monday, but to lessen the size of the crowd at Meet The Teacher night, we had to make a few changes to the hours.
We are asking parents to follow this schedule(if possible):
4:30 - 5:30; 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Parents, Last Names A - H
5:30 - 6:30; 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Parents, Last Names I - Q
6:30 - 7:30; 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Parents, Last Names R - Z
There will be New Family Orientations at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 in the cafeteria. Everyone is invited to join this meeting, but if you're comfortable with the way things work, you can go right to your teachers. We will be discussing procedures(who doesn't love procedures?), pick up/drop off, cell phone policy(NO phones), and the construction timeline.
6th Grade schedules will be handed out in the cafeteria.
7th and 8th Grade schedules will be handed out in the upper gym.
For boy's Athletics questions, please see Coach Jackson, and for Girl's Athletics questions, please see Coach Karg.
We will have staff and students throughout the parking lot and school to help you find where you need to go. Because of construction, parking is going to be a challenge, so be prepared to use the baseball field parking lot across the street.
Here is the bell schedule for next year...first bell starts at 8:00 AM!
