What is animal cruelty?
Animal cruelty is when people hurt or kill animals. Animal cruelty is also when animals' owners don't give them food or water. Another way of animal cruelty is not taking care of your animals in a responsible way.

Number of animals adopted in Santa Cruz from 1/1/14 through 12/31/14: The number of cats adopted was 330, dogs 525, kittens 475, other 244, puppies 260.

What can we do?
To stop animal cruelty, please give your pets plenty of water, food and never leave them in the heat too long. Make sure you have a fence to keep them from running away and getting hit.
Causes
Some causes for animal cruelty could be leaving your pet in the car when you are in a store with the window not down a little bit. A cause could be not giving your pet food or water. It could happen if you never take your pet on a walk or not giving them an opportunity to exercise.
