Trash or Treasure
I want to share a tip that has helped me have consistently better days that was shared with me by my friend, Danny Sunshine Bauer. This is his journal format that I've been trying and I love it. It's super easy to learn and take action on and only takes about 10-15 minutes a day.
Each morning I do a few things in my journal:
- I answer: What could I have done (changed) yesterday to make it better?
- I practice gratitude: What are three things I am grateful for?
- I make a list: What are three things that would make today great?
- I get excited: What am I excited about today?
- I consider: What might be a challenge: What will be a challenge for me today?
- I write a summary of what I read (or jot down a list of 10 ideas)
- I focus on helping: Who can I help today without expecting anything in return?
- I pray: I write a short prayer

The Social and Emotional Character Development (SECD) Survey will be held NEXT week, October 22-26, 2018. The link to the survey is also located below!
Here is some information about the SECD Survey:
* Students in grades 3-12 will take the survey.
* Elementary students (grades 3-5) will take one form, and secondary students (grades 6-12) will take a different form. Context of questions is the same; questions are worded age-appropriately.
* The survey has been significantly reduced in length from almost 60 questions last year to 36 questions this year.
* The survey is approximately 15 minutes in length for students to take.
* One outcome to be measured for all school systems through the accreditation process is social/emotional growth.
* The Board of Education identified social/emotional growth as a key strategy in the district’s goal to improve student achievement and well-being.
* This survey is KSDE (Kansas State Department of Education) approved.
* This is an anonymous survey; no identifiable information will be collected.
* This year, surveys are specific to each building, so staff can use data for individual and MTSS needs.
* Parents will receive information about the SECD survey this afternoon. Please let me know if you have parents/guardians who have questions about this survey.
