Principal's Note

We have some exciting events happening at PVES this next week. We will begin our One School-One Book on Monday with a kickoff assembly that will reveal the official title to the students. We are very excited about this year's book that will tie into our theme of "PVES students are the ingredients to our recipe for success." Mrs. Perkins and a committee of teachers have some fun activities planned during the rest of the month of February and March as we read this book as a school. Thank you to all of the families who donated a dollar to help with the cost of this year's book.

In addition, our new sound system will be installed at PVES next week. Thank you again to the PTO and families who donated money during last year's Color Run in order for this purchase to happen. A special shoutout to Jamie Czarapata who organized the Color Run and spent hours of her own time making the event a success. We are looking forward to testing the new system at our PTO movie night on February 22 and our 1st-3rd grade concert on Monday, March 11.

No School on February 20th

Please note that elementary students will not have school on Wednesday, February 20. Even though Park View Middle School students will now have school on that day after the recent cold/snow days, the elementary schools still have enough instructional minutes for the 2018-2019 school year to have the day off for teacher professional development.

Links for PVES Band/Orchestra Concert

The band or orchestra at PVES had a great concert on Thursday of this week! Great job to all of the students involved. Because we could not reschedule the concert in a timely matter after the snow and cold days, we wanted to share the links to recordings of the concert. Enjoy them at home with your child if you were not able to come on Thursday:

Recess - Extra clothing

The health room has had many visits lately from students who are looking for dry mittens, hats, scarfs, socks, and pants. Unfortunately, recent weather conditions have made our playground very wet. Even though students are only playing on the blacktop, they are getting quite wet at recess. Please consider sending extra outer clothing this time of year so they are heading outside with dry clothing.

Family Movie Night - From PTO

Friday, February 22nd will be our Family Movie Night with the showing of Smallfoot. There will be concessions for sale during the movie. If you would like send in a NUT FREE treat for the bake sale, please sign up using this link:

Special Report - Art Classes - Mrs. Engelking

Most classes have been working hard on their pieces for the annual art show. We’ve been painting, cutting, glazing, and constructing. Fifth and sixth graders are just beginning their unit in glass fusing. The art of glass fusing involves taking pieces of glass and layering them to create interesting compositions. The artist needs to think about color, shape, size, and opacity. After the layers are glued together, the glass piece is fired in a kiln and at a certain temperature, the glass melts and becomes one piece. Students will have the option of making a magnet, pendant, or decoration. If you have a student in fifth or sixth grade, please sign and return the glass fusing permission slip by Monday, February 11th.

Ask your child what he/she has been doing…

· Kindergarten – Robots

· 1st Grade – Paper cupcakes

· 2nd Grade – Ice cream sundae sculptures

· 3rd Grade – Laurel Burch cats

· 4th Grade – Donut paintings (the study of tints)

· 5th /6th Grade – Glass fusing
