Mindful minute: Feeling stressed? Take a moment for self-compassion. Research shows that those high in self-compassion benefit in every area of their lives, and spread compassion to others. It can be easy to beat yourself up for mistakes in the course of the day. “I should have done this; I wish I’d done that. I should be more responsible. How could I let that happen?” Self-compassion is a way to treat yourself like you would treat a dear friend. In just one minute, the CAN mnemonic can help you show yourself compassion.
Here’s how it works:
C - it’s Common to feel like this. Reassure yourself that everyone has moments like this.
A - bring Awareness to your breath and your body. Ground yourself.
N - be Nurturing to yourself. Place your hand on your heart, or give yourself a hug. Tell yourself, “It’s okay. You’re okay. It’s normal to feel the way you’re feeling. This will pass.”

As we approach Fall Break here at ThunderRidge High School that means that, as crazy as it sounds, we are gearing up for course registration for next year. With that being said, we here in the International Baccalaureate Department are reaching out with some information as students begin that process.
IB Diploma level classes, which are accessible to Juniors and Seniors, are always an option for students looking to challenge themselves and prepare for post-secondary opportunities. We offer an ever-expanding variety of IBDP courses that give students ample opportunity to extend their learning through a variety of curricula. For more information on the courses offered, we encourage all students to talk to their counselors, swing by the IB Office (B201), or email Mr. Risner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
One thing we did want to mention, in addition to our IB classes, there is the full IB Diploma Programme. This is a 2-year curriculum focused on a rigorous, balanced, and holistic approach to global learning. The IB Diploma Programme is the premier college preparatory program in the world, and to commit to doing the full Diploma says a lot about a student as they prepare for their post-secondary goals. If you want to know more about the full Diploma, please come to Academic Showcase on November 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30 and hear the IB presentation. This Week in Advisement
There was no Advisement this week due to Field Day activities
The DCSD Board of Education voted unanimously to place a $66M Mill Levy Override and $484M Bond on the November 2023 ballot. All seven Board directors expressed their strong support and personal dedication to our students and our staff.
The Board also unanimously adopted a compensation resolution that will automatically trigger if the MLO passes. For school district staff, this means pay increases would happen automatically should the MLO pass (with increases being paid retroactively back to July 1).
